Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't google announce at the N1 press conference that they would be releasing a firmware update to android that would allow you to install apps to an SD card? So if they hold true to that in my mind storage space isn't really an issue.

I believe they said they were working on that type of capability. I don't remember anything being said about an actual release of the firmware. I could be wrong on this though.

As much as we think that a "large" segment isn't going to be happy with the phone, there is going to be a "huge" segment that is. I think that those of us investing the time to follow the rumors fall into the minority. The vast majority will be attracted by the "bells and whistles" (Sense UI, etc) of any product that Verizon brings to the market.

Although there is a lot of speculation, and I, like others want the answers now, I think that VZW and HTC are waiting to reveal the final specs for CTIA. I would say that 95% of consumers have no idea there is a conference coming up nor do they have any clue as to the rumors as to what is coming out. Why operate on a business model that caters to the minority of consumers?

Those of us here are all like-minded. I found the forum because I was actually trying to do some homework before upgrading my Storm 1 to a Droid. I think that if we think about it, most people walk into a Verizon store, see what catches his/her eye, then walk out the door with it - that's what my wife does (is it pretty?) VZW and HTC know that they don't have to release specs early to sell a huge number of phones. Specs to many are: "cool! it has a touch-screen and the background moves."

Think their talking about RAM, which is, I think, not what youre talking about. Essentially, youre talking about the phones hard drive.

That firmware update will probably be released at the same time as the car dock

Whitey's reference to the SD Card technology is correct. This was definitely mentioned during the N1 reveal as something that should be coming in the future for Android. This would allow a user to easily expand the amount of disk space in the phone for app storage. By my understanding this will not operate as RAM and will do nothing for improving performance of the phone itself.

Oh I know they meant RAM I forgot to quote who i was directing the statement at. The thing we also need to consider is the processer as well if you are worried about speed. Just like a desktop computer if my friend had 1 GB of ram and a pentium 4, and I had 1 GB of ram and a core i7 my computer would incomparably faster. (putting aside different RAM types which wouldn't apply to phones). What I'm trying to say is EVEN IF the phone had the same or slightly less RAM then the eris the processer should more then make up the difference.

I believe the wording was they were working on a way to do this. Hence they haven't figured it out yet, or figured it out yet to their liking.

Ah, gotcha. My bad. Thats interesting about the SD expansion though, I hadn't heard that until now. Seems that a lot of people complain there isnt enough room for App space unless you root.

Yes during the question segment at the N1 press conference someone inquired about the ram and storage and they replied that android would be getting an update that would allow users to install to SD cards.

Who believes that the Incredible will actuall be a better phone than the N1 or the Desire?

For me, it comes down to the memory. If the Incredible has 256mb then I am going to go with the N1. If it has more than 256 then I will pick up the Incredible.

I'm not willing to leave Verizon. I will say that I am hoping the Incredible has more than 256mb because that is my phone of choice.

The only phone I have played with is the Eris (and the Moto Droid but I had a Motorola before and.... yeaaaa). I am coming from a Samsung Omnia so anything better then that I am excited for. Luckily I can do the smartphone upgrade after 1 year so come my birthday in May if the Incredible is out by then (which it seems like it will be) then I will pick it up. I think hearing about the N1's problems and the fact that you go to google for problems as opposed to the carrier will scare me away, and the Bravo/Passion/Desire/Incredible is NOT through google so I have been reading on info about those as opposed to the N1 to get me prepared for the incredible. So to me getting the phone THROUGH Verizon is enough to make me want it over the Nexus 1.

I want to believe that the Incredible will be better! I think I have watched every youtube video there is with SenseUI 2.1, and I want it!!! I just want the incredible to live up to its name. I hope its not under clocked and and the ram to be 512 minimum. I cant see them putting out all the phones recently with 512 and the INCREDIBLE having only 256, it would be absolutely crazy

Really that is subject to anyones definition and opinion of "better" I'm not trying to be a jack@ss, I swear. But what might be better for me, might not be for you. I think they will all bring something superior to the table, that the other one might not.

Bottom line for me is, whatever phone I get will be better than my enV2 lol.

Does it really matter? Unless someone you know has a Desire you're probably not going to know what you are missing.

Very true. It won't matter what is better or not.. All that will matter is if you are satisfied!

If the phone I get satisfies the characteristics I was looking for in a phone and it works well AND my service is good (which it will be) then I'm good.

Hey I am really sorry but I think I may have been wrong on the ram, I have asked my contact at VZW with the phone to confirm. I didn't check when I had it last night, I was trying to remember from Jan. I will let you know as soon as I know more.

Remember this is a developer version of the phone from months ago, upgrading ram in that time period is reasonable.

Oh and it is FOR SURE a 5 MP camera with dual LED flash
