I screwed something up.. and can't put humpty dumpty back together... :(

I think I know where I messed up (now), but I've tried everythind I can find so far to try to resolve this. I don't have a nandroid backup :( I do have a full Titanium Pro backup but that won't help me until later.

I have the Vibrant phone (Galaxy S), the older 3G version. It was pretty much stock, but was rooted.

I was following this guide so I can get put Cyanogen on:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Vibrant:_Full_Update_Guide

The part that got me was installing the ClockWorkMod recovery. I missed the part where it says that the "guide assumes I have Android 2.2 build UVKB5", I do/did not and assume this is why CWM is causing issues now.

After the part in the above guide:
heimdall flash --kernel zImage

is where my trouble began... the phone just goes into this loop where it almost boots all the way, but at the lock screen (where it searches for signal, etc) it's basically frozen. I can't even unlock it by swiping. And within seconds it restarts (not reboots, just restarts the post-boot)

At this point I'd like to just get back to the stock image for right now at least so I can have a phone :/

Here's what I have tried so far:

Heimdall Suite:
(via command line)
In addition to trying to re-flash the Clockwork zImage that is part of the above guide several times (including after leaving the battery out for a few minutes), I also found via one of these forums a file named "zImage-Vibrant" that I tried, and I also tried to flash with the zImage file from the T959UVJFD.rar

I also went into the heimdall-frontend.exe GUI, and pointed it to the T959UVJFD.rar file to see what would happen.. it extracts it and then complains that "firmware.xml is missing from the package".

Odin3:
I can only get Odin to see the COM port when the phone is booting/booted. In Download mode it can't see the phone, I tried playing around with reconnecting and restarting Odin in numerous combinations.

Recovery Mode:
After all the above failed, I finally did a factory wipe/reset, and cleared cache. Same boot issue.

Voodoo:
I'm not at all sure anymore what the setting should be, I've tried a combination of enabling and disabling the lagfix, with and without the filesystem conversion. I get a robot voice when I reboot the phone telling me it's doing a conversion (even when I disable the the voodoo lag fix)

The version of ClockWorkMod installed is:
ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.1.3 - Voodoo lagfix

Is there a different recovery file (a zImage, using Heimdall) I should try to flash to replace ClockWorkMod? I think if I can at least get rid of CWM I get get somewhere (maybe).

Since I can't get into the phone I can't mount the filesystem in Windows as a drive, and now that I reset to factory and phone is no longer rooted and no longer has debugging enabled, I'm not really sure what to do from here...

Any recommendations would be really appreciated. I've found lots of bits and pieces or help in this and other forums, but a lot of the links or downloads the posts mention no longer are valid.

If you can recommend anything please try to provide me with a URL or download link if at all possible...

Thanks
Nat

Just an update - I couldn't even get the Samsung KIES program to connect to my phone.

I set the ClockWordMode setting to not do filesystem conversion. As a last report in hopes maybe the KIES program would see the phone I went into recovery mode and formatted the system.

Now it's worse.. the phone just shows the "Overstock" ClockWorkMod display when I reboot the phone and doesn't even try to go any further (understandably since there is no system).

Completely stuck now

Well you are in luck. Go look at the vibrant 3G flashing station on our website. Watch the odin tutorial then follow the steps in the video on how to reflash your phone to stock so you can start over. In the latter part of the video I explain how to flash a rom on to your phone.

Look me up on our forums for further assistance because I do not check this site that often, maybe once a month or so. Only reason I still come here is because I still see people clicking links I have posted here from our site like the one to the vibrant 3G flashing station in our sites logs.
