How do you like 4.0 ICS on your T989?

I have installed the update early this morning and used it all day. Bluetooth, wifi, messaging, making calls, emails all work without any problems. The only issue I have is that the wallpaper won’t pan or scroll. It just sits there ugh. I don’t like it but I tolerate it. Keeping fingers crossed for a fix.

Wallpaper feature was taken off during the previous Tmo patch "UVLDE" back about a month ago. If you try a homescreen app lik

For me I like all the changes in menus, but I thought it would bring better features and widgets as you see reviewed on the net.

To me if feels like a dummed down ICS(compared to tablets/other cells)

Yea unfortunately a lot of the new features from the new touchwiz are not in the update. I do not quite understand what the reason behind not releasing them along with the newer version of the phones is but a wild guess is that those new features make people upgrade to the new model.

One thing that I really like is the organization of the settings menu. Now I actually know where the options are because at least to me they seem a bit more intuitive. The one thing I really hate is the contacts - who's stupid idea was it to make two different apps that contain contacts - really so now to dial my favorites I can just press the dialer button while to look for someone's name that I don't know how to spell I need to search through every single facebook/google/skype and google+ friend. Thats stupid.

I actually like it, The face recognition is faster than what I thought it would be. The only thing I dislike is that you can't change the brightness settings by swiping the notification bar. Other than that, I love it! :D

Yep I am quite disappointed about that one too but it is easily fixed - there is an app that when you click on it provides the slider for the screen brightness. I like ICS too seems to waste a bit less battery than Gingerbread and also we have support for the new protocol (mobile network and APN settings. I think its called IPv6 which seems to get my internet going a bit faster.

Anyway I think just like with every new software (especially microsoft windows cough cough) there will be quirks that are not very appealing. The windows comment is coz last time I could not find where control panel is when I was looking at windows 8 or what ever the new stupid thing is. You can already tell how exited I am about it LOL :)

Do you know the name of that app that lets you adjust the screen brightness? I'm currently using the "Power Control Widget" and it works fine but I want to try out this app now haha :D

The app is called Brightness Level - it works fine just make sure your brightness is NOT set on auto before you install it and you should be just fine. Here is the link to the app in GooglePlay

https://play.google.com/store/apps/...XJ2ZWZpc2gud2lkZ2V0cy5icmlnaHRuZXNzbGV2ZWwiXQ..

Also I do not use the widget because there is some bug that force closes the launcher so I guess don't use it. You should not need it see how simple the app is to use!!! Hope I helped

The phone is very janky now. Apps take a second or two to load. The keyboard is slow to respond at times. The delay tends to go away after the keyboard has been open but the first few words are janky. The screen doesn't seem to recognize my touches as easily as it did prior to upgrading. I'll quickly tap things and it won't register.

Kies was easy to use and update the phone as it kept all the app data, pictures, contacts, etc. But since my experience was janky, I did a factory reset which did NOT help with the slowness.

LAGS, CRASHES and all around bad performance, battery life is down, phone runs hot. Tried a clean install and rooting and gutting it.. it is functional but it's just not good enough for me to deal with. I'm going to charge it and restore my previous system.

It has potential, but I can't recommend it as it is. I'd wait till there is an update/fix of many issues. (or better yeat a clean fast ROM based on this release, that's most likely what I'll try next when I see it)

It's ok. The problems I have are: phone is laggy with almost everything I do,, some icons are not displaying properly, only the text. Battery drains way to fast. I have about 11 pages of apps. I want to try some kind of reset but I don't want to lose anything important. What can I do to increase battery time and decrease lag.

Yeah, forgot about the icon displaying thing, but that too! I don't know... I'm going to go for another reset on this install, then if it still is laggy, restore my Android Zombie. I just want a phone where everything works and the battery life doesn't suck again.

I have a quick Idea you might want to consider - I am not aware if your phone is rooted but If it is not I would suggest you root it. Grab Titanium backup from the store install it (you don't need the paid version for this) and create a backup of your apps. So all of your apps and your data that is in the apps will be saved. After that just go ahead and do a complete reset - wipe everything on the phone (not the sd card that's usually where the backup gets saved). Try using the phone without all of the apps and see how it suits you.

I don't seem to be having any of the issues. The phone is speedy and it opens everything up - The only thing that I could have a complaint but really do not is the request for the internet once you open the stock browser but again when you are over T-Mobile's network some lagg or latency is expected. Other than that its fine my battery life is pretty much exactly the same 2 days - keeping the screen brightness very low because that seems to be the biggest waste of battery.

Can you guys post a screen shot of the icon problem thing - I am really wondering what the problem is whith the icons not displaying properly - I have a lot of crap on my phone too and it seems to be handling everything properly. Maybe it could be a problem that we can solve together.

It just had a generic android emblem instead of the icon... but I just gave in and did one last reset and I'm loading everything (software wise) from scratch. (so I can't go back to the bad icons) So far it does seem better, but I just had Titanium hang, and now it hung on a restart on the "goodbye" magenta logo... LMAO!

I guess I'm lucky. I've had very few problems. My biggest problem had been getting Titanium Backup to work. It sees zero apps in my backup and zero system apps. I've Odin'ed ICS and rerooted twice and same thing.

Last night I went to recovery and wiped and formatted everything using darkside super wipe and cache wipe and Odin'ed ICS one more time. Haven't tried to root again yet but its running smooth. That also proved one thing to me, you don't need the LDE update as a prerequisite to ICS.

I had the problem with it hanging at Goodbye. Flash in recovery Darkside Cache Wipe. That fixed the problem for a lot of people.

After doing a reset it still hangs, I'm going to give this a shot, thanks. The battery life is still bad, but it seems to not be as laggy after this latest attempt. (but still hangs on that screen, so I'll give it a shot!) Most likely going back, but will give this another ay or so.
