OK...I am a noob, so please cut me some slack. I bought 2 of the Evo V's at BB and they are NOT running ICS. The android version is V 2.3.4 and the Sense version is V 3.0. I called VM and after 40 (yes...forty...four, zero) minutes of talking, placed on hold, talking, placed on hold..., I was told that HTC would "roll out updates to ICS" over time and if the phone did not update within 45 days to call HTC customer service. 45 days is too long to exchange at BB and so my question to the android gods out there is what should I do? I have no clue about rooting and stuff...although I am interested in learning this android thing...

All that being said...I think this phone rocks...especially for 300 bucks with no contract.

Thanks in advance for any advice/assistance.

I believe that the initial batch of Evo-V's were literally Sprint Evo-3d's taken out of the sprint packaging, had Virgin Mobiles ICS Rom installed, and then put into VM packaging. It sounds like you got two phones from a batch that never got the VM software. You may or may not be seeing increased 3g and 4g speeds as a result... Anyhoo I would take the phones back and buy from a different store or wait until the store you bought them from gets another shipment.

I would take them back.
Don't even mess with it, it will only lead to headaches. They completely failed to flash the phone over to Virgin, the phone will not even work properly and a minor update won't fix it, you need the entire firmware changed including Hboot. They must have hired temps to flash these phones over.

It's a $600 gamble to try and fix it yourself.
Take them back and and get different ones.

Just picked up Virgin Mobile HTC EVO V 4G from RadioShack. SAME EXACT THING:mad:! android 2.3.4 sense 3.0 and No virgin back cover branding or software anywhere, no my account, no virgin live. INSTEAD I get sprint radio, sprint zone, sprint boot animation, sprint background etc. It must have not been flashed over to virgin. but they were able to activate it after about an hour on the phone. mms and everything works great. phones current username says mynumber@virginmobileusa.sprintpcs.com. model pg86100.

vol- + pow displays:

SHOOTER XC SHIP S-ON RL

**Update**
I Took it back to RS today. They exchanged it for another one (still had to call for the ESN swap) this time we checked in store before ringing it up to be sure it had been flashed. SAME EXACT PHONE! No virgin branding on outside, nothing about the hardware or the package was different, except the factory screen protector was creased and bubbly on the first one I purchased, it was nice smooth on the replacement.

These all arrived in store on the same shipment, though possibly in different boxes or originating from different locations. What makes them different? I don't know.
I can't help but wonder how many people have bought one that wasn't flashed with the VM software and have no idea...what a shame.

I guess all is well that ends well. I gots my Ice Cream Sandwich =)
