Can Apps Be Stored On External Memory Card?

Because I'm on the fence about The Note or S3 I search in both forums. While searching in the S3 forum, someone was saying that apps cannot be moved to external memory card. External memory card is only for music, movies, pics. They said the same thing holds true for the Note. Is this true? I mean, I guess it would make sense cause there's so much more internal memory in both the Note and G3.

With 16GB internal, the partitions are set up where that storage is seen by the OS as the SD Card. The External SD is linked from there so Apps will see that as another "folder" and scan it when scanning the SD Card folders for media, files and other things.

In short, no, you can't move them to the external card.

Now, if you are ROOTED, I know on some other devices, they swapped the "internal SD Card" with the external one, but honestly, what's the point? The Internal SD is faster and your apps will see whatever you put on the external so no harm is stuffing all your music and movies there. :)

Hope that helps!

Many apps can be moved or installed to the external SD but none of the base apps already on the phone. Most banking or apps that require a secure session also wont install to the external card for security reasons. Consider however just having an external card will use more battery, increase boot time and slow the device even if only a small bit it begins to add up when you have a good number of apps and especially if you run app scanners.

Wait a minute. So we can move apps to external memory card??? I understand we can't move apps that come with our phones.

BTW. I never heard that the more apps that are moved to the external memory card slows the device down. Is this really true??

The memory on your phone is much faster then currently available cards.

According to SD Card Tester my Class 10 Samsung reads at 12.8Mb/s where as the internal storage read is 22.7Mb/s. That seems pretty substantial to me being almost twice as fast as the external card. So it will depend on the app since a book reader might not feel any faster but if you played a game you can notice a big difference in speed.
