Help LG-P500 trouble with buttons after immersion

A few weeks ago I fell into a lake with my phone in my pocket. It got a bit wet...

I took it apart and dried it off as far as I could. Since then it's been in the airing cupboard in a container full of silica gel sachets, and it appears to be dry.

However now it doesn't work properly. Annoyingly nearly everything complicated about it is working. Here is what I observe:
  1. On inserting the battery, the device shows the LG logo in the middle of the screen forever (or at least for a few minutes), but the device does not proceed through the Android boot sequence.
  2. Pressing the Power button at any time, either briefly, or for a longer time (approx 10 seconds) seems to have no effect.
  3. If (from the LG logo screen) you press either Home or Back or Menu (or probably any other button), the Android boot process starts, reaching the Unlock screen.
  4. Pressing the Home (or any other?) button from this screen brings up the "unlock" screen, and swiping a finger across the screen unlocks the device to show the home page.
  5. At all other times, pressing either the Home or the Back button brings up a Ringer Volume screen, with the volume set to zero, and a continuous vibrate. The only way I have found to stop the vibrate is to press either the Volume Up or the Volume Down button.
  6. Just waiting for some seconds turns off the screen (sleep mode I suppose). Pressing the Home (or any other?) button from here brings up the Unlock screen. Swiping a finger then takes you back to the screen you were previously on.
  7. Since neither the Back nor the Home buttons work in their normal way, there is no way to get back up the menu system to the home page, other than to remove the battery, reinsert it, and start again from scratch.
  8. If I connect to my PC via USB I can see the files on the SD card.
  9. I can receive phone calls.
  10. I can access web pages via the WiFi.
I deduce from this that:
  1. The processor, memory, SD card are all working.
  2. The touch screen, speakers, vibrator are working.
  3. The WiFi is working
  4. The GSM is working
  5. The USB is working
  6. There is something wrong with the buttons. Possibly (or possibly not) this is the only problem.
Does anyone recognise these symptoms?

Any suggestions on what to do?

I've also seen these screens:

What do these mean?

Your phone is forever broken I would think.
Well, it may be... But I would still like to know what is wrong with it. It seems clear that 99% of it, and all the expensive/clever bits, are working fine.

Does anyone know how to take the thing to pieces? I got as far as removing the 6 screws that you can see when you remove the battery cover, and separating the "front" and "back" mouldings, but I couldn't see how to remove the PCB so I could see the other side of it, in a way that I was sure I could reverse...

Thanks - Rowan
