Hey guys, stupid question. Anyone got either a digital copy of the atv-3000 manual or a set of instructions re: SATA installation ?

I got a box with no paper or CD or any reference. Just the ATV 3000 and it's hardware parts and trying to get a SATA 2gig drive working inside it.

Any help appreciated.

I want to know how you go with it as was asking a few posts ago about whether anyone else has set it up...
I was wondering if it just plugs and plays..
also I was wondering about power to it..

It has a bay tht the drive slides in a plugs in. I have a seagate 2tb drive and it's not working as I would expect. I used acronis disk director to format it Fat32 and copied some files / folders on to it. It locks up. So I tried formating it ext3 and doing the same. It recognises the drive but shortly after it ceases to function.
i.e. moments later. So the SATA section has nothing. What's funny is that USB thumbdrives work just fine.

<sigh>

I'm out of ideas and can't figure it out.

anyone else with this type of box manage to get a drive working?
I did see one working when i brought the box.. the demo.. that had movies on it in the shop..
I want to get it going too..
I already have a Seagate usb setup as a Samba drive via the Asus router..
So this was the next one i wanted to give a go..
I will be back to mine tomorrow so will play over the next week and see what comes of it..
Might try a 1T first.. then step up if that works ok..

One of my customers is having the following problem with the ATV1000 (M1) box:

- He is trying to update firmware but it is not working
- When he holds the reset button to enter Recovery Console it just shows a black screen
- Sometimes mouse pointer hangs and Home button does not work *might be unrelated

Has anyone else seen a similar issue with not being able to enter the recovery console? Any idea how to fix it?

Thanks.

Hi,

Have you tried making 2 1TB partition? I had a 3TB external drive, and it won't see it when it's plug in. Once I make the partitions smaller, it works just fine.

Had time to play with this all day as down and out with the flu..
Will post a in-depth review over a few posts so this one doesn't get too long..

1: Problems: Screen reset itself in to HMDI 1020-I Mode..... Was set to HDMI-1020-P
This makes the screen on my tv out of reach so have no access to setting menu.
Also Mouse turned into a black box, with the green man inside it.. becomes useless and it takes up huge amounts of screen..

Fix: As yet I have not worked out how to boot in to recovery.. using the method that is in the one of the posts in this thread doesnt not work on the ATV3000.
(posted method: Hold reset button and power on for at least 3 seconds, to boot in to Recovery..for mine it just boots in to the system again and again.. )

My work around was to use TB boot to recovery.. boots me in to it.. (had to do this by counting down and guess work as could not see the menu-had it opened on my pad and was counting down to the command - 14 clicks if you have to do it)
so I can do a system reset..

What we need is a fix for Boot to recovery for this type of box..
if anyone has done it please post how you did it..

For now.. on market is a "REBOOTRECOVERY" by Qbanin for Samsung devices that works well.. my suggestion is have it to the top left hand side of your screen so that if you get in to trouble you can use the remote control to boot to "recovery" to get yourself out of trouble..

2: Internal Hard drives -- I dropped a tester 500gig in to see how it went.. no problems.. only thing I noticed was how hot it was.. as I pulled it out after a few hours to see.. I am worried that there is not enough ventilation with in the unit to keep it cool.. as with most people.. they will have this box under there TV in a cabinet that doesn't get much air. Fire Hazard..? or a harddrive killer? Maybe.. I think it would be better to stick with USB drives.. as they are dime a dozen now a days..and are plug and play.. I have a 1T seagate passport hooked in to the router on the Samba and the media box is streaming from this well enough.. plus all other devices work with it..

3: Samba - Why not.. go ahead and do it.. set your sdcard or USB drive as Shared drive and you don't have to be plugging an transferring..
On Market - Samba Filesharing by Funkyfresh.. works a treat.. http://market.android.com/details?id=com.funkyfresh.samba

4: SDcard slot problems - I am still testing this and not sure on it.. might be the cause of the first problem.. maybe an over heating problem, sdcard shits itself and system goes bonkers.. I still need to play with this.. but I was having problems with it not loading programs that I had transferred.. i.e "Parse error"
yet, I can pull the sdcard out and put it in to my transformer dock and it will install the exact same file..
This also leads to me having problems of using the sdcard slot as an update vehicle so I have moved to using one of the USB slots and put a 8gig usb in as my system upgrade memory..

5: upgrade to 730 - fail -
upgrade to 730 mod - fail -
both of these slow my box down to snails pace.. something in the kernel I think is killing the system.. the allication of resources on our 512k memory is just not working on this upgrade..
529- no problems.. zippy as hell..
I did notice a few things via CPU Master.. mine is running at 850MHz with the Min set @ 300 and its on the Conservative Governor..
Now with a little digging around in system I can see there are some files we might be able to play with that would open this up..
As time allows I will see if changing any of the values in the kernel system files are going to allow us to tweak this up a bit..
and also maybe let us use other the Governors.. like performance..
Bit of shame that the kernel is not opened up to us as yet.. so am thinking of sending an email to them tomorrow and point them to this thread and XDA so that they know that by opening this up a little will get them more exposure.. therefore selling more units.. anyway.. as time permits hopefully we can play more with this..

6: XBMC - lastest version - http://www.pivosforums.com/XIOS_DS/XBMC/xbmc-XIOS-100912.zip
Discussion - http://www.pivosforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=1576
Running a treat on mine so far.. I need more time with it.. but dam.. its sweet..

edit... XBMC.....MAN....THIS ROCKS!!!!!
LOVING GETTING STREAMING BUSTING THROUGH THE GREAT CHINESE FIREWALL..

Final thoughts.. I am thinking that the 512k memory is a painful limitation for these box's, as I am noticing only about 105-71mb is left for applications..1meg-2meg would make these things so more fun.. and I suppose dual/Quad core..so as we are really first at the gate.. its to be expected that we are going to want to upgrade to better box's as they come to market..

Hello all.
Regarding dg's most recent post.
Could someone please remind me how to install an apk from a .zip file?
Have done it before but forgotten how.
Quite keen to try XBMC.
Many thanks again.

Extract the apk from the zip file then put the apk on sdcard and use the built in app which scans the sdcard for apk's to install or use ex file explorer and open the apk which will also install it.

use esfile explorer to unzip it.. then can use that to install..
or Solid explorer.. double click and it shows you files inside the zip.. you can chose one to install and it will install from within the zip..

As a note on this version of XBMC..
I loaded a lot of "addons" in the video section and found that I had reached a limit to how many I could load into this version..
So I played with the Windows version today and it loaded a ton more in.. with no limits..
Also, after so many addons, I am finding it crashing a bit on me..
but these are still early days.. can only get better..
This Android version is streaming fine.. and are still keen to play more with it..
so please post back on how it goes for you.. as no matter what.. its a great front end for a media box such as these..

RB,
you should be fine..
its load and play..
I had it find my drive connected to the Asus router, which is a Samba driven network..
only took a few clicks and had it playing U2 "Where the Streets Have No Name"
nice and loudly...
I still need to spend time and get the hang of playlist making..
but you will also find a ton of radio stations..

I downloaded the latest XBMC app and iView/Channel 7 catchup TV addon but cannot workout how to get the external addons to operate.

Some guidance would be appreciated

PS I can get the inbuilt addons to go but not the external ones.

Hello dg.

Installed XBMC on Sunday morning (UK time), simple to do and thanks for the advice.
Having problems getting the program to recognise the folder where i keep music files.
I copied the file path from the file explorer .apk ( /mnt/usb sdb1/Music ), but that does not seem to work.
Does the file path look correct?
Is there any feature in the program to scan for suitable file types?
Lastly, could you recommend a website or such providing advice for new users?

Many thanks again.

RB..
try this way..
music..
files
add source
browse - this should bring up a list of drives it can see..
in your case look for..
external storage.. ( mine is on the Windows network (SMB))
click into your music folder....just to the main..i.e music
click ok
and it should take you back with a screen that has
/mnt/sdcard/music
this stage you can name it if you want..
then hit ok..
then you should see it..

as to documentation..being open source...not a lot round at moment..
try heading to XBMC.org...
I am running both the Android ( Mediabox) and the Windows -( laptop ) versions..to see how they compare..
both going into separate HDMI inputs to TV..
k..have fun..

Need help to change the air-mouse cursor on my Diamond AMP1000 (a re-branded ATV1000).

The mouse cursor is white with a very thin black outline. I can barely see it when the background is white.

Is there any way to enhance the visibility of the on-screen cursor - a thicker outline, or a drop-shadow, for example?

gio965 in post #1534 has posted 10 pointers for ICS.

There are pics in the download to preview the pointers so you can determine which to install

Hi all, I have thought to gather and prepare ten different pointers, so that everyone, if he likes,
can choose and customize his favourite one.

Inside the zipped file, you will find:
-a "png" folder with files used to prepare the update packages
-10 update.zip packages that will install 10 different pointers and a new default wallpaper.
Among them, there are also, two pointers made by cupi1234 (many thanks to him).

Unzip compressed file and copy the update.zip packages into the root of your sdcard or usb pendrive...
plug sdcard or pendrive to your device and using the inbuilt Upgrade app, try the various
update packages and choose your favourite pointer.

If you don't see the new default wallpaper, you can solve, going to:

Settings --> Apps --> All --> Settings "app" --> clear data (ok)

Here is the link to the file: 10_pointers_for_ICS_0529.zip

Download link is brocken, can anyone help?
