Hi everybody, new member to forum and going to be new to android soon :D but the question is, nexus or htc one x? The nexus is 'pure android' and will get updates faster, but it comes second when looking at camera, processor (dual core vs quad core) and memory? Which would you guys take?
Will be my first android, switching from iOS & bb :| any advice appreciated!

I'm biased because I own and love my Galaxy Nexus and also own a Nexus 7 tablet. I love stock Android and the openness that is the Nexus program since they are aimed at developers. However, the One X is a great phone and does have some improvements in hardware over the Nexus. Jelly Bean is a big software improvement over ICS though, which I think the One X still runs.

Hey Lot welcome to the forums :)

I am also biased towards the GNex haha ;)

I love the phone because like MSUgEEk said, it has a lot of freedom...however the One X's hardware kicks butt.

It all depends on personal preference, if you want to customize your phone the easiest then go with the Nexus, however if you want sheer power go with the One X...

Hope this helps!

I think the one x is for me..brute power! Lol
Cant you root the one x and still tinker around with it? Saw a couple of videos showing that htc sense actually slows the phone done, but with some effort I think it can run stock android 4.x?

Lot i have owned a couple HTC's not for long, so they aren't worthy of my phone list, anyhow though, i really do not like the Sense UI, it's always something that's bugged me and yes it is still very possible to root/unlock the One X, just not as easy as the Galaxy Nexus.

Go with what you feel is right and you won't disappoint yourself, if you are with a carrier and make the wrong decision you technically have a 2 week window where you could return it for something else ;)

With some effort, you can root any phone and tinker, but it requires more effort. Everything is done EASILY on the Nexus.

Regarding Sense, the newer version doesn't really bog the system down. HTC has made a great effort to minimize Sense's impact on overall system performance and have done a better job than any other manufacturer at this in the latest revision.

I know a lot of people who have rooted the One X complain about the none existent battery life once it's done, I have no need to root mine and quite like sense... phone is still as fast as anything else on the market and battery lasts a respectable 30hrs off one charge with the firmware updates.

It can be done but I'd look into it quite heavily if you are buying one to root.

EDIT: Going back to an earlier post JB is coming in november on unbranded handsets, around christmas depending on who you are with if it is branded. This is in europe so could be quicker in the states, seems to be tied in with the new One X+ release.

I too am an owner of and biased towards the Nexus.

I admit that the One X not only looks great on paper, but feels and looks great when you see it also.

One question is, what will you use the phone for most?

If you play a lot of graphic intensive games, well the One X has the Tegra 3 chip.

Pure android and early updates is huge plus in the Nexus favor though. I don't have a bunch of processes running in the background that I don't want. And I've been running Jelly Bean since I pulled my Nexus out of the box in July and first plugged it into the wall outlet.

Lastly, I understand that 8mp sound "three better" than 5mp on the camera. But, like with computer processors and MHZ, that does not mean the photos from the One x will be 60% better than the Nexus. I don't know how to research this, but the size of the sensor behind the lens in digital photography will best determine your photo quality. In that manner, a 5mp can be just slightly lower quality than an 8mp (not saying that is the case here). If you can see a side by side comparison of the same photo taken by the One X and Nexus and decide for yourself, that would be best.

So most people here think the nexus is better :)
Yeah one of the things that attracted me to the htc was the camera (hd video recording and still shots simultaneously, among other things), and if the battery life for regular usage is above 30hrs then I'm okay! I use my phones for calls, social networking, pictures and surfing the web, mostly
What is the average battery life for the nexus?
I wish google could just make one 'ultimate android' cause choosing between these two phones is hard :|

I would typically rather have a phone running stock android, but in this case I think I would prefer the better screen and camera. I actually own a GNex (and a Nexus S prior to that) but I would have got the One X if it was available on my carrier. It is more impressive in my eyes. Jellybean also isn't that special (google now is not useful for me) so getting updates first isn't a huge advantage.

And as someone else said, megapixels don't really matter, but in my eyes the camera on the One X is far superior to the GNex. I am frankly disappointed with the camera on my phone. Samsung doesn't have the best reputation for cameras. HTC on the other hand has always had a good reputation for their cameras. My brother actually has a very low-end HTC phone, but even that phone takes as good of pictures as my GNex.

I upgraded to a galaxy nexus from an evo 4g two months ago, and I think it is a great phone. It is by no means perfect, but it exceeds my needs in every single way. The One X is also a great phone, and to be totally honest if I was signing on for a 2 year contract with a carrier, I would have chosen it over the nexus.
I went with the nexus really for two reasons.

1. It's fast/good enough. It isn't LTE, it's not the best dual core chip, battery life isn't the best, the camera isn't all that great, but as a package it makes a great phone.

2. I use prepaid T-mobile for $30 a month. For $350 with no strings attached, you can't find a better phone, and any other option in that price range isn't very good.
