Hi,
First time posting here and I've looked everywhere across the web to try and fix this simple issue I'm having but no success. I just got my galaxy s3 yesterday and I wanted to know how to change the shortcut icons located in the quick access panel at the bottom of the homescreen. I've read different methods. I've tried simply holding the icon and dragging it onto the home page but that doesn't work for me no matter how long I press and hold the icon on the short cut tray it just doesn't let me drag it around. This was the method that was instructed in the manual as well so hrmmm. Also I've tried going into the app tray hitting the menu key > edit but the quick access panel disappears so i can't drag an app onto there. I don't wanna install any other launchers I'm just gonna stick with touchwiz for now.

Thanks.

Ok first put the apps you want to replace it with on the home page (or any page that has room), then long press the app you want to move into the dock (short cut tray) and move it, it will automatically move the other app You can also just long press the app in the doc and move it to the home screen leaving an empty spot.

Hmm I tried that just now but when I press and hold the shortcut the shortcut dock disappears and instead is replaced with a delete option. If I drag the shortcut there it gets deleted. Also for me to move shortcuts around on the home screen I have to hit the menu key then edit page. I can't freely drag and drop my shortcuts around I get some message saying "use the menu edit function to position of widget, shortcut and folder and to resize widget." and thats the exact message too . It doesn't sound grammatically correct.

Greetings azn80149,

It really is as simple as hbryder says.

1. Go into your app drawer..pressing the apps shortcut on the tool bar.

2. Long press on the app that you would like to put on the tool bar.

3. The app will make a shortcut on the homepage, as long as there is room on the home page that you are on at the moment.

3b. If the homepage is full, return to the desktop, switch to another home page and repeat step 1 again.

4. After the shortcut is on the homepage, return to the desktop.. pressing the home button on the bottom of the phone.

5. To replace the default icons on the toolbar, long press on the icon that you want to put on the toolbar, you will now be able to move the icon around.

6. Slide it down and over the icon you wish to replace. The 2 icons will switch positions.

7. You can get rid of any icon you don't want by long pressing on it, then a trash can will appear at the bottom. Simple drag the icon to the trash and it's gone. This does not erase the app, just gets rid of the unwanted icon.

8. ???

9. Profit

You can't put a widget in the tool bar at the bottom.

Welcome to the forum.

Hope this helps.

I'm sorry but this method doesn't seem to work any more, the primary short cuts seem to beunmovable and you can't move another icon over them to replace them like you used too.
This has all happened since the last update, I even tried uninstalling the app but the short cut icon still remains. Very frustrating

I'm wondering whether you are trying to replace "Apps", which is the right-hand icon on the panel? This is the one which changes into the "Delete" trashcan. If so, then the answer is that you can't change this one, only the other four.

Others have described how to do this, but this is how I'd describe it:

1. Go to whichever of your home screens contains the app you want to put on the shortcut bar (it does need to be on one of your home screens).

2. Press and hold the icon of the app you want to put on the shortcut bar. The display on the screen will appear to shrink slightly, and the trashcan will replace "Apps" in the right-most position of the shortcut bar.

3. Drag the icon you're pressing down into the position you want it to occupy in the shortcut bar - but *not* over the trashcan.

4. When in the correct position, remove your finger. The app you've moved should now be on the shortcut bar, and the app which it has replaced will have swapped position with it, ending up on the home screen.

It can make it a two-step process because, if the app you want on the shortcut bar isn't on any of your home screens, you'll have to make space for it and put it there first.

I can't freely drag and drop my shortcuts around I get some message saying "use the menu edit function to position of widget, shortcut and folder and to resize widget." and thats the exact message too . It doesn't sound grammatically correct.

I am having the exact same problem with the exact same message and it only started happening recently

On Galaxy S3 ICS 4.0.4

Any chance an app is causing this. Just wondering as the message isn't grammatically correct so thought it might not be a samsung message

I just purchased my phone 2 days ago. I was able to move apps to dock as described above... I then updated software and now cannot move or change apps in dock. I have reset phone and still no good... appreciate your help in fixing this

Install Nova launcher and all your frustrations will be gone! Or any of the popular launchers will do the same things. This was covered previously by someone from Australia after receiving an update and Samsung said this is the new normal for touchwiz.

Thanks 1up5dn for the heads up that it is a change in touchwiz. I have now found that the "edit page" option on the main menu does allow you to move the icons from page to page in a similar way to before.

However as mantaray says there doesn't seem to be a way to change the icons on the toolbar. Would be keen to know if anyone knows how to do this in the updated touchwiz

Thanks

Step 1: Open the app drawer on your device
Step 2: Press the Menu button on your device and choose View type
Step 3: Pick Customizable grid from the pop-up menu.
Step 4: Press the Menu button again and this time choose Edit.
Step 5: Drag and drop the apps you want onto the dock bar.
Tip: You can also drag away icons you don't want and only fill a couple of the original spots. However, you will not be able to drag the Home icon away from the dock bar.
Step 6: After you finish making adjustments, tap the Menu button and then Save.
If you'd like to change back to your original view for the app drawer, simply repeat Steps 1 through 3, but pick Alphabetical grid (or you can try out the List view) for Step 3.
That's it! Now the apps you're using will be the ones at your fingertips. What apps do you keep on your dock bar?
