Hey guys, sorry I posted this in the root section for att but no one has looked at it so im posting here to hope to get some advice. So I have my ATT S3 and I was thinking about rooting the phone just so I can have google wallet. I have a pretty firm understanding on how to do it I just want to get yalls opinion on if it would be worth it. I dont want to install custom Roms or any of that. I saw there is a risk to brick the phone,is this like the same risk that you have with the iphone jailbreaking? As long as you do everything right you will be fine?

Thanks for all your help guys.

Again sorry for the double post,Im just looking for advice. Thank you!

I'm almost sure you don't need root to have Google wallet.

But if you do want root reguardless, make sure you read the root guide as many times as necessary until you understand what your jumping into. Even then follow the steps closely step by step. Just like the carpenters unwritten rule, measure twice and cut once.

the four big us carriers are actively trying to deny its users google wallet, so im pretty sure you would need root to get it... which root method are you thinking about using?

I'm not sure I agree with this. Many of them have no issues getting wallet in the device. A few of them tried to start their own wallet like service but gwallet is so much better they don't really have a choice

In fact, wallet is supposed to be not supported on rooted devices

I actually have to disagree with you on that as I did have gwallet on my 3vo preroot unless they have changed it since then.

You seem to be right about not supported with root devices. Didn't have problem downloading before root. Oh well never had use for it anyway :D

so how am i supposed to go about getting wallet onto my phone without root? the play store claims my t-mobile s3 as well as my vibrant running jellybean are incompatible with the app. and they each arent trying to start their own wallet service, they are involved in a joint venture known as Isis, deliberately trying to shut google out. it may not be all four of the big carriers, but im pretty sure its at least three of them

Didn't have problem downloading before root.

i think the root method for obtaining google wallet requires flashing something in recovery, instead of downloading from the play store

Give this guide a shot to installing GWallet on your AT&T S3 (Does require root)

Also, DragonSlayer, what are you using to get your notification bar on the bottom of your screen??? I've seen it a couple times and have searched everywhere for it!

Sprint is not denying its customers Google Wallet.
I know that Verizon is attempting to roll out an alternative payment source.
Can't speak for the other two... but Sprint clearly has no problem with it right now.

i wouldnt use that, itll trip your flash counter, and undoing that is a whole process in itself

here: [HOWTO] [ROOT] No Tripping Flash Counter - [ATT / Bell / Telus / Rogers / Sasktel]

i used this method several times for the t-mo s3, no problems, very simple, very straightforward. i also would steer clear of CWM. get goomanager from the play store, hit menu, then select "Install OpenRecoveryScript". then whenever you want to boot into recovery, you just have to launch the app and hit reboot recovery
