Help 3rd HTC One X - still wi-fi issues

Really got disappointed in my One X in the past month. I have had the phone in the UK since launch and it worked perfectly up until 3 weeks ago when my wi-fi signal dropped from its normal full level down to one or no bars most of the time.

My wi-fi network hasn't changed, the channels are the same etc and even changing them made no difference. All other wi-fi devices in the house (around 8) work perfectly with no issues.

I got in touch with HTC and they called it back in for a repair as holding the top right would push the signal back up. I got the phone back just over a week ago and although they said they repaired it by replacing the mainboard the same issue was there right away.

They took it back again and this time told me they would replace the handset with a new one and finally a week later I got it earlier today. Low and behold despite it seeming like its a new handset, new IMEI etc the same issue is there but worse - sometimes wi-fi even switches off which makes me yet again think the wi-fi connection inside the One X isn't fixed right.

I'm getting really peeved as I pay a monthly tarriff and could have been left without a phone for over 3-4 weeks, thought luckily I am in the position to have other phones to use.

I ran the One X side by side with my wife's Samsung Galaxy S3 and my One X will only just pick up my network, yet the S3 shows the other 6 networks nearby, which just shows the One X isn't working properly. (Images below)

I've lost patience with the phone now and the repair system as either loads of their phones have the same issue even now or they are just not repairing them properly but I'm clearly now stuck with the phone due to my contract.

Just venting but its good for others to know about.

Many of us feel your pain...

This issue has occurred in many of the international One X handsets so you're not alone. I myself experienced this issue, and ended up selling my One X. I remember when HTC came front with this issue they promised a "better" phone. This is why we have the HTC One X+.

I know people who have taken their One X phones to a repair shop, and apparently the issue has been fixed. Not sure what the shop does but it allows the wifi receiever to pop up more, and attract a stronger signal...something like that.

I suggest you find a local phone repair shot which takes in HTC phones and give it a go. Good luck

HTC repair really sucks. My wife's Sensation has just gone in for a third time for the same fault (not repaired the previous two times). Just found out now they are swapping the phone rather than repairing it.

I made a YouTube video of the fault but HTC call centre said they could not make the repair centre (Regenersis in UK) watch it and they seemingly had zero contact with Regenersis other than their electronic system. All communication, including fault description, appears to be a maximum of two words so if you have anything other than an obvious fault (ie cracked screen) you are in for a frustrating time. Writing on the Tick Sheet supplied with the phone is a waste of time as the HTC person admitted the Engineers do not read them.

HTC policy is that the third time a phone goes in for the same hardware fault it will be replaced.

Yeah Regenersis are only 4 miles from me - feel like taking it there myself and throwing it in their faces

Do it!!! For me! Lol

I send my 1X to them for repair because GPS doesn't work, battery over heating and camera takes blurry photos at night. I personally post-it a list of faults onto the screen of my 1X before post the phone to them. They send my phone back with a new motherboard but that didn't fix anything, even worst the LED notification light now blinking towards the back of the phone :(:(:(

I had the same wifi issues, i posted this a few weeks back!

my phone was suppose to be picked up by UPS on a friday and they never turned up! not htc fault though. It was picked up on Monday and returned on the Friday in the same box looking a bit more bashed and no protection inside - i sent the phone in bubble wrap etc etc, lucky the phone was ok!. So i turned the phone on and i got the exact same problem I doubt they even looked at it.

So contacted HTC again on Monday and got picked up on Tuesday, got the phone back 8 days later but in a nicely packed box and the phone was protected with a clear plastic! and this time it was fixed

SO for me its very hit and miss, suppose it depends what technician you get!

I've got almost exactly the same situation as the o.p. I was actually browsing the net at the time, and happened to see the signal strength drop. It is now very poor compared to my old Desire, and my wife's S3.

Mulling over if it is worth sending in for repair - seems to be a bit hit and miss. It is just about usable around the house, but I an worried it may just get worse.

i would send it back, like i said it was fixed the second time so maybe you might be lucky and get it fixed first time, I just did it with online chat with a htc rep. Just mention the wifi push screen issue

I've had the same problem for the past couple of weeks, the wifi strength suddenly dropped on both the home network and at work, None of the fixes that people have suggested have worked,

Ive been debating sending mine in for repair for a long time now as it kept crashing when disconnecting from a PC and was seriously overheating when using apps (although 60 deg C is still apparently within HTC's acceptable parameters ) However the last update has seemed to fix the crashing problem and up until the last week or so had greatly reduced the overheating,

Unless the Wifi problem gets worse ive decided to wait for the JB update and see what happens after that.

What was that about holding the top right of the phone and the signal going up?

Think I'm going to do the same - see what jb brings. If no improvement, then I'll send it in.

On pressing the top right corner - this is where the WiFi contacts are. Apparently, the contacts press against the back cover, but they are not sprung. This means if they move (say with a slight flex to the back) or if they were not installed correctly then they won't return to make a good contact against the back.
Pressing the top right corner can restore the contact, improving the signal - but runs the very real risk of bending the contacts further so making the problem worse, so I wouldn't do this. A spacer has now been put in for new one x so it is only early models that are affected.
There is a huge thread on xda on this issue - with mixed reports from those who have sent their phones in for repair. Some saying the signal has got much better - some saying they have had to send it back several times and issue persists.

This really bugs me. My wife's S3 is rock solid in terms of WiFi - but shitty in terms of the touchwhiz UI (though I wouldn't say that to her face). I would say the one x is the all round better phone for the mix of hardware and software if not for this issue.

Well I just tried pushing down lightly on the right hand corner before i saw your explaination and the signal strength did increase back to what it was a couple of weeks ago.

Wont try it again now though incase it does damage it,

Hmmm now with this new information im not sure if there's any point waiting for JB, a skeptic would think they might just change the scaling on the wifi icon as part of the update
