My power button died today, which is apparently a common problem for a Nexus S. Anyways, I want to root it so I can reroot the powerbutton to a different key. But you know I can't enter recovery mode without a power button. Any way to root it without having to use a power button?

Try this Nexus Root Toolkit v1.6.0 | WugFresh have heard good things about it but haven't used it myself. I believe this is sort of an automated process run via your PC. I'm not sure whether you need to be in fastboot mode or not. I guess it's worth a try. This software seems to work for all Nexus derivatives up to the latest Android builds. Good luck.

Edit: Just thought I'll give this a try and downloaded and installed the toolkit. I am quite impressed! I hooked my GNex up via USB (it was fully booted) and then started the toolkit.

Once you initially select your device and Android OS version 'Advanced' if you need more options for your device state, i.e. fastboot mode, reboot, or reboot bootloader etc. I think this should work for you.
