Question re: new Maxx HD activation

After gaining useful info from this forum for a long time, I decided to join.

I searched but could not find my answer. I bought a Razr Maxx HD at full price to keep my unlimited data. I told my wife she could give it to me for Christmas. Obviously I will activate it as I now have the original Maxx.

My question- I know that Jelly Bean will be waiting to slide on the phone, and I'm wondering if I should do a factory reset afterwards. I'm thinking if the phone doesn't set my gmail account and contacts first, a factory reset should not be needed. Am I thinking right? When my Maxx got ICS I know there were many who had to do the reset to clear a few bugs.

Any thoughts? Of all the phones I've had Verizon has always activated them. Thanks.

When I got my ICS update on the Bionic, EVERYTHING came to a crawl. It was unusable. Factory reset fixed it like a charm.

When I went from ICS to JB on the RMHD, no issues were seen. So I didn't reset it. So do it if you notice lagginess.

I upgraded to the Maxx HD on Nov 23rd. Of course it had ICS. Now I don't use many apps, (I had about 50 on my previous phone) When I activated my Maxx HD I only reinstalled about 25. So when JB came to my phone, I just rebooted before allowing the install and have Had absolutely no problem since the upgrade to JB.

Maybe I'm just lucky or it's beccause I don't install a ton of apps, (i'm very pickey about what I install) but i've always had excellent results when upgrading my phones.

Just wanted to let some people out there know, sometimes upgrading the OS is not a problem.

Best of luck to everyone,

Thanks dirkbonn. I'm kind of the same. I've only put 21 apps on my Maxx.

I kind of thought JB would start as soon as I activate it, but I've never started a new phone myself. But that won't be a problem. After it gets the bean, I will do a factory reset. I would rather do it then rather than wonder later if I should have.

I appreciate the responses. It's hard knowing the Maxx HD is in that cool box and just sitting in my wife's closet until the 25th.

If I had no data or apps already on my phone, I'd do a factory reset right after the update. You don't have anything to lose except the initial setup. You're going to have to load all your info and apps anyway, better off to do it on a clean canvas.

Thanks t0ked. That's what I'm thinking. It will only take a little more time is all. When my Maxx got ICS I think I lost a little battery and always wonder if I should have done the factory reset. I just lived with it. But now I will have a perfect clean start I figure. I appreciate the comments.
