Root [MetroPCS/CDMA] Faux-Penguin-Kernels-d2-mtr/cri/usc-JB[Linux 3.0.46]kernel for AOSP/AOKP/CM10 ROMs

Out of all the kernels I've flashed across the multiple devices I've had, Faux kernels are always the best in performance and speed.

Glad to see y'all got "THE" kernel of choice. ;)

Nice work shab ;)

Yeah this kernel paired with aokp 4.1.2 has my phone running ridiculously well. Its like #2 and the plague kernel for the Esteem, on crack.

That's exactly what I'm running and it's by far the smoothest set up I've ever had. I even keep mine UC'd to 1 or 1.2ish and it's still very smooth.

However, I do enjoy the Lean kernel and Franco kernel as they are both amazing kernels especially paired with AOKP. But I always go back to Faux kernel as it's noticeably "different" per say in terms of smoothness. You can just tell that it "feels" better. Plus the Faux app to go with it is great as you can adjust everything. I also use the Franco kernel app as it has the option to backup your kernel so you can try different kernels and easily just revert back to whichever kernel you backed up. Both are great apps and you don't have to have the Franco kernel to use the Franco app. Just gotta be sure not to flash a kernel that's not for your phone. ;) But for modding, it's cool.

You guys should feel privileged to have both AOKP and Faux. These 2 developers is all you will ever need for your device. And someone to port it for your phone ;) Pair this with some inverted apps from BBean or JTinverted and you'll never need to touch your phone again in terms of development. ;)

I just have it undervolted using faux's app. Other than that it's just the kernel doing its thing.

yeah Fuzzy I think I'm finally ready to start using my phone as phone. I can't think of anything else I need/want to do to it.

I was actually relieved when I first started using this combo. It gets old flashing ROM after ROM kernel after kernel.

Every since my boot loop incident with the Esteem, I've never been crazy about flashing, I just try to find something I stick with.

My $0.02 over here.

Running this kernel under AOKP. Smooth as freshly formed ice over a still pond.
Using interactive governor sees a small lag on unlocking, but ondemand does not... (of course).
Stuck debating if I should go interactive/noop, or ondemand/noop. Currently, interactive/noop, and I'm liking it, except for that small lag when first unlocking as mentioned above.
Otherwise, this kernel seems to be, as far as my experience is concerned vastly superior to ChiweN's Linaro kernel. So good job!

ups over linaro:
  • my phone no longer heats up
  • OC'ed (using ultimate) to 1.8 and still completely stable and cool/warm to the touch (temp wise). (Linaro would get really hot and reboot eventually after a while at anything over 1.7 on my device)
  • No more random reboots when doing GPU intensive tasks (templerun marathon/ movie watching...)
  • Signal drop issue I've experienced from Linaro seems to be fixed, but I can't confirm until I leave town since where I am is blanketed with strong 4G... (yeah, bummer, right? LOL)
  • (partial) ROM Control integration (no voltage changes - but that's a feature whose worth is debatable)
  • gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside...

However, Linaro includes the KTweaker app while you have to download Faux's from the PlayStore... See... I can find something Linaro does better! :p

But really, Shabby. GREAT JOB... I know this is just an adaptation of someone else's work, but you did it beautifully.

Small thing worth mentioning, although I'm not sure if this is to blame, or AOKP altogether.
Playing around in ROM Control, I set Tablet UI and Dual Mode on at the same time (just for kicks and rebooted to see the result...)
Well, I never got to see the results... I got stuck at boot.
Tried wiping cache/dalvik, battery pull, waiting im/patiently, staring with aggravated look on face...
In the end, I just reflashed a fresh backup I had. :)
Which reminds me,
Hey folks! Don't forget to make a fresh backup when flashing/testing kernels and ROMs!
If I hadn't, the above mishap could have been painful to me. But of course, I had my backup, and my baby was back up and running in no time!

guess its a good thing i made this thread, as this kernel has been publicly available for over a month :p

as stated this is faux's kernel that i changed to make work on the right devices but in time i will add in some nicer stuff that i think is worthwhile :)

Of course it is.
A thread makes it more "official" and provides a better area for feedback! ;)

Hey shabby, any plans to clock this kernel to 2.1? I miss that from linaro kernel.

Running cpu that high all the time is not good, especially on your battery.

Also Faux app wouldn't stick after a reboot, so i grab no frills overclock app and can confirm they stick after a reboot running BB/ondemand/1600 mhz.

Exactly. Plus your phone can only get so "smooth" and I can guarantee that if you handed a noob a phone OC'D to 2.1 and then handed them at 1.8, they would not notice a single difference. Overclocking is overrated. You get more benefits in under clocking your phone. Over clocking only does so much good until it's just a battery hog, more so than OC'ing already is. Unless your OC'ing it for games or streaming, your just a noob trying to show off cause I doubt your launcher needs a phone to be overclocked in order to be smooth. lol. I like the people that think overclocking makes your web browsing and data speeds faster. Smh

Yeah I'm not a game person but I've heard there can be a couple games that just eat up RAM and slow the phone down something serious and OC'ing can help that a lot.

Yeah. With 2gb of RAM, you'd think that everything would run fine if managed correctly. For the most part it does, but there are very little hiccups here and there. My hopes are that some more speed will help. On the linaro kernel it did. Otherwise I guess it might be something super simple and stupid like the app being on my external SD.

Yeah I've heard of problems with larger games running from the SD card. Smaller games like simon says and ish, lol, I'm sure could run fine from the SD. Regardless though, 2 GB of Ram and 1800Ghz should be enough for most games I would assume. O_0
