What kind of vehicle mount are you using with your devices?

My 6 month old Exomount from Amazon unstuck from my dash and fell onto my center console breaking the one clip today (phone wasn't in the mount fortunately). Decided I want to give something else a try but there are so many horror stories on customer review sites which aren't always an accurate representation of the product.

What kind of car mount are you using with your S3 or other devices?

We use this one:
Amazon.com: Mountek nGroove Universal CD Slot Mount (Black): GPS & Navigation
It's great, very secure and versatile since we have two phones and can't have a designated mount. It does block your CD drive but since we don't play cds, it's not a big deal. I like how it's not very high up and blocking your windshield but still very usable for navigating.

I actually like the look of that a lot! I'm not worried about the CD drive being blocked, but what about your stereo controls? Unfortunately, that looks like it would cover up everything on my dash related to the stereo. (08 Cobalt used as my DD for 50 mile commute)

I used one of those for a long time. I bought it when the company was first starting out and was only selling on eBay.

Unfortunately that doesn't work for me anymore. It just doesn't hold a phone securely enough for a Jeep Wrangler and the terrain I sometimes drive on. I had to go to a heavy duty window mount.

My wife still uses the Mountek one in her car though, and if I had any other type of vehicle (I won't ) I would still be using mine also.

Adding my vote for the Mountek, which I use with my Epic. Photo of it in my Hyundai Tucson - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v704/lurkerlee/Car/Mountek.jpg.

I later put the mount in "upside down" from this and it raised the body and gave me more clearance to see the radio display. You can also rotate the phone to "landscape". So there are several options that can help give more or different access to radio controls/display.

This works better for me than the suction mounts, which seem to come off at the most inconvenient time. More importantly for me, but maybe not others: as a 5' tall woman I really can't easily reach controls on a suction mounted device in a SUV. Plus I like the lack of visible suction cup rings on my windshield when I park in unsavory areas.

Mine is a custom gadget that attaches to my phone case, it's made by someone I met at a Verizon store, he invented it and made me a copy. However it's not for sale as he said it was too late to make anything for the S3, I guess you gotta make em when it comes out. I do like how portable the mount is, how it works in any car I happen to be in, and all the other uses it has. I think it's a million dollar idea. Call me a gold digger if you like but I am going to stay real good friends with that guy.

Sounds pretty sweet, I'm surprised he hasn't tried to patent the idea or at least find a financial backer!

Do you have a picture of how it sits in the car?

You'd think that the reason he doesn't want to publicly disclose the "gadget" is because it's not patented but he did say it was patent pending. I think the reason he didn't want to share with everyone was because the patent wouldn't stop people from copying it, something to do with lawyers. He also said something about media/news, something about the timing, I forget.

I can't really take a photo but I can tell you that if I did, you wouldn't see the gadget anyway because it would be behind the phone. It is attached to the dash not the windshield. That really is all I can say. However when the time comes i'll take a few snaps.

I was just reading all the comments about "is this mount compatible with this case/combo" and I thought this guys gizmo would solve that problem. Your problem appears to be suction cup related, I hate those friggin things, what I hate the most about them is that without warning they will just drop. I always thought they should put two suction cups on there, one to temporarily hold the thing up so it doesn't cause an accident.

Call me a gold digger if you wish but I don't want to piss off a soon to be rich friend, lol.

Don't know about 4.2, but with 4.1.1, using a US Verizon SGS3, stock, not only is car mode STILL there, but I can confirm the iBolt car dock works exactly the same with JB as it did with ICS.

It may be present in Touchwiz but it isn't present in Android anymore. This is the only thing that really disappoints me. I think it started with 4.2. I'm pretty sure I remember it being there in 4.1, but that could have also been the ROM I was running.

I've been using this same mount with every Samsung phone I've owned.

Amazon.com: Arkon Universal Windshield with Dashboard and Console Mount for Mobile Phones and Smartphones (Black): Electronics

I got this particular model because it didn't mess with the camera button on the side of some of the phones. I find it works perfectly well with my S3 even in the gel case I bought for it. I probably will have to look for a different mount if I get a Note 2 or any other device that's bigger than the S3

I am confused; hopefully, someone will clarify.

One of the reasons I have decided not to upgrade to JB is uncertainty whether the ibolt car car dock will continue to work. I'm on AT&T.

According to WAWoods, ibolt works with JB 4.1.1. However, the quoted post seems to imply otherwise. Can someone explain from a practical perspective, if I do upgrade, will ibolt work or not?

Thanks,
Mike
