Help Jelly Bean discussion/issues thread (released Dec. 13)

My push notifications still work for messages, posts on my wall and such, but ever since I upgraded to Jelly Bean I no longer receive notifications for the pages for which I've selected the "Get Notifications" option. My livelihood partly depends on knowing when certain pages have made posts, and so I'm forced to refresh half a dozen tabs every few minutes until I can figure out why my phone won't notify me any more.

I've checked every single box I can find on Facebook.com and the Android app pertaining to notifications, and yet they're still not working. The only problem I can see is that when I log into my notifications settings on the web, it says "Some notifications" despite that everything on my Android app is checked.

Does anybody have any idea what the problem might be? I'm going crazy trying to figure it out here. I'm even considering buying an older Android to keep charged just for Facebook push notifications for page updates.

If i would have known that the usb plug in mode would change if would have held off on switching to jellybean for as long as possible. Why did sprint/htc/google change the usb options anyways?

My question is, i just bought a new tv, and could plug my phone into the tv and play my music files. Now when i plug it in it says cant access usb storage and it says that on both the disk drive option and when i switch it to they htc sync option. Is there anyway or another option i can choose so that it will play my music, picture, and video files again?

Would rooting it be an option?

Hi, all! I just got the LTEvo last Thursday. During calls the screen either stays black when I take the phone away from my ear or the screen stays on during the call! I took it back to Sprint, but the blasted thing started working perfectly after a hard reset. Once I used the phone as I was heading for home, though, the proximity sensor started acting up again! This behavior seems to happen on and off. The erratic behavior seems to happen when I am in a place where the lighting is dim or, in some cases, in indirect sunlight. When I'm in a room or area with bright light, all is well. This started happening even before I got the update to Jelly Bean, but it got worse after the OTA.

I know this is a known issue. I've read up on it. Has anyone come up with a fix? I really don't want to start over with a new phone only to find the new phone has the same problem! I can live with it if I must. But if I can fix it, that would be cool.

Thanks to anyone that can give any input.

Its a bug introduced by the latest jellybean update. There is a rumored fix being worked join by HTC

If you're interested, most rooted ROMs have a reported fix already

Cool! Thanks for the quick response. I don't know if I'm gonna root this time. But then again, I say that with every phone I get when I first get it. This one seems like a keeper.

Thanks again.

Just to report HTC told me that they are already working on many fixes to many of the issues that customers have been reporting from the Jelly Bean update. They still have no ETA though.

So should I take my phone in to Best Buy or just wait until an update is released for my issue with the proximity sensor?

Posted this in the Bluetooth thread but it seems to be a JB issue as well....

The issue I have with BT now is the new voicemail app no longer plays sound through my BT connection. Music streaming and the phone work fine but when I play a voicemail there is silence and nothing comes out of the phone speaker either. I have to disconnect the phone from BT and listen to the VM's through the phone speaker. This worked just fine on pre JB. I have paired the phone several times and deleted it from my car radio all together and readded it to see if that would fix it and nada. Any ideas?

I bought my wife an EVO LTE when they came out, and she has no issues with JB. She is a light user.

I bought an EVO LTE for me on Dec 15. I upgraded to JB right away, and it ended up having a light leak on the screen. It worked great at first, then had issues updating weather. Everything else was fine, but since there was a hardware issue, I could exchange it for another EVO at Sam's Club. The 2nd came with ICS. I used it as ICS for a day, then upgraded to JB. The second unit works like butter. I love it. I don't love the Sammy G3.

Why won't HTC get behind the EVO with marketing and software? Sometimes I wonder if I bought the flawed machine, but I really prefer the build quality of the EVO. I prefer Sense. The supply chain is forgetting about the EVO, but with 4G service all around me and Jelly Bean, I find this EVO rocks. Love it. Has HTC, Sprint and the market given up? I'm staying stock Operating System. So far, I believe this EVO LTE is still the superior android device available today. If no one promotes it, or refreshes the market letting people know how blazing fast it is with 4G, and how well it can be with JB, I fear HTC EVO is another Palm. I was a Palm guy, too. KoD (kiss of death)?

Okay need some help with this one. Since JB update my WiFi been turning it self on. I turned everything off, but still it will just out of the blue turn on. Am I just missing something or is this a issue that others are having with JB.?

Go to Settings > Mobile Data > Automatic Connections and turn off Connections Optimizer

getting "no weather data available" on the JB weather clock constantly .. updates location almost flawlessly, but having to manually update the weather is annoying .. any fix for this?

This might be a dumb question: Have you turned Auto-sync on? (Settings > Accounts & Sync > Auto sync, and then go down to weather and select the update schedule)

Does anyone else have a problem not getting a SMS notification when receiving a new SMS/MMS message? I'm using the stock messaging app and I cannot get the notifications to work. They work fine with GoSMS, but I would prefer to use the stock messaging app. I've checked and rechecked my settings, rebooted, and I cannot figure it out.

Thanks for the help.

I was having trouble with no/spotty notifications after the last ICS update but JB has pretty much fixed the issue for me. I use the stock messaging app along with SMSPopup for repeat notifications until I ack them.

I figured it out. I had a setting in GoSMS that was enabled that shouldn't have been.
