I tried to backup my Razr using Sprite Backup. When I went to restore information, Sprite was unable to read the stored file on my sd card. I am looking for a reliable backup program that will backup and restore my call log, my apps, my text messages etc. Any suggestions. Thank you

Root then install Titanium Backup Pro.

He is right. Best option available. It is so easy to root, there is no reason not to do it. I am very uneducated with tech stuff and I am rooted. Search for Matts Utility for the RAZR and download it. Then run it and follow the instructions. You will have to check 1 or 2 settings on your phone. You will have to have the phone connected to your computer with the most current drivers(which should install the first time you connect your phone) then follow the prompts. The time it took to write this paragraph is longer than the process of rooting. lol.

Edit
Oh and just so you don't freak out. While Matts Utility is running your phone will reboot a few times. Just wait until it says something on your comp like "Exploit Complete" or something like that.

Not true. My Backup Pro REQUIRES root!!! I just went around in circles with them because I was under the impression MBP did not require root; and then a lot of stuff -- I mean A LOT of stuff -- that I thought was backed up (I checked off every possible item I could check off) failed to return when I ran the restore. And the e-mail thread I worked over with them wound up with the affirmation that ROOT IS REQUIRED TO USE MY BACKUP PRO!! It even says so on their Android Market page (and am I the only person who thinks "Android Market" is a much better term for it than "Google Play"?).

I use App Backup & Restore. You dont have to root your phone. The files are saved on your sd card. I usually do a full backup before I do the FDR and then once its done I will install the one app from the Play store and restore the apps back to phone. I have never had an issue with it. I have done the FDR twice now and the apps were back on the phone in no time.

For text messages, I use SMS Backup & Restore. This does not back up pictures attached to SMS texts. For calls, I use Call Logs Backup & Restore. Both are by Ritesh Sahu and work great for that. My programs, I just restore from the Google Play site

I've never used it.

The App Store writeup for the app says "*** Notice: App Backup cannot backup data or settings of apps for you, but it only backup the apk files."

The apps can be easily re downloaded from Play Store. The problem has always been in backing up the app data.

Titanium Backup Pro and My Backup Pro will both backup the app data but each must be root-ed to do so.

There are at at least a few reasons...not the least of which being that it voids your warranty.

Put another way ... when you root you assume total responsibility for your phone.

(I have a phone that is off contract that is root-ed. I have a phone that is on contract that is not root-ed. Reason ... when I signed the contract I agreed not to root.)

That's not true though. Legally they can't terminate your warranty outright for changing the software the phone uses, they can only refuse to cover damage caused by modifications you made. Of course Verizon might still try to refuse to honor the warranty, but as a matter of law the warranty is still there (although have fun getting them to honor it).

I highly doubt that you actually did agree not to root the phone. Besides, even if there was some requirement about that it would be built into the Terms of Service for the network coverage, and not the contract to buy the phone. So it doesn't matter if you're on contract or not, it matters if you're using their network or not.

+1 for root and Titanium backup.

If you don't want to root mybackuppro is also a good app.

That's funny, because I have used it on 3 phones, none rooted. You can't backup appdata or alarms, but you CAN backup everything else without root. Their page on the play store actually says you need root in order to backup appdata. That's it.

In my honest opinion, rooting a phone is half the reason I have android over iPhone. There is so much you can do with a rooted phone. I don't think it is the service providers right or privilege to tell you what you may or may not do with the data and phone that you pay them for. I understand that rooting voids the warranty, and that I assume risk once rooted, but the benefits far outweigh any detractors.

As far as backup apps, I have been using Titanium Backup pro for over three years now, since I rooted my first android. (the HTC Hero, which was considered one of the high end devices at the time... LOL)! It is simple, effective, and well proven to backup, restore, and freeze bloat. It is a wonderful tool for those that use it. YMMV, and good luck!

You are both zeroing in on it. The issue is that you cannot backup app data unless you are root-ed. This is what is very important to a lot of people. App data will have things like custimization choices for an app and for people who are into games ... the current running totals for the games are likely there also.

Some people can root and are conservative by nature and never tun into a problem. Many people root with partial information and eventually "shoot themselves in the foot".

If you choose to root ... know what the potential problems are before you do it.
