Considering purchase on Sprint

Long time BB user and this may be my first Android phone. The Z10 is not and will not be available on Sprint, so my options are the HTC One or possibly the S4. The options I was really hoping for on my next phone were HDMI out and greater sd card storage, neither of these appear to be available on this model. Does anyone know why these were omitted or any rumors of a future model of this phone coming with them ? I cant be the only user with these as wish lists. Any other phones I should consider. I'm a newbie here in regards to Android. My teenager has the LG Optimus G and while it seems decent it is in the same boat. I love the look and features of this phone, but I am one who usually keeps phones longer then most and don't know if I should just wait till the next series come out hopefully in the fall. I appreciate all input. Thanks in advance

While there is no dedicated HDMI out, there is MHL support. You can connect an adapter via the micro USB port and have HDMI that way.
Ok I'm intrigued. How does this work and what type of adapter would be required. A work around is a good option, although cloud storage for memory is not an option I am considering. Thanks

As posted above you just need an MHL adapter or MHL Cable. The One also has DNLA built in so you can stream media to compatible devices. As far as storage goes other sites are reporting that the One has USB OTG (On The Go) functionality so SD card adapters work with it (Your Mileage may vary). Although it is not ideal to have to carry an adapter around it could be beneficial to help keep less on your phone. What phone do you currently have and what are your storage concerns?

Here's the HTC adapter:

HTC MHL Adapter - HTC Audio & Video - HTC Accessories Depot

There are other MHL adapters out there though. The description should explain how it works.

Thank you very much! I am glad I asked this question here. I understand now, and this is a very good option. Learned something new today. Do you also know if multi colored alerts are available on this phone or Android in general? This is an option I have relied on a lot on my BB's for answering or not answering calls and messages.

Thank you. I currently have a blackberry bold with a 32gb memory card. It has a lot of music on it as well as pictures. I purchased a 64gb card in anticipation of getting the Z10. With the larger HD movie files now out I think that is a must for me. down time at work will let me watch some Spartacus lol. Can anyone confirm this phone has USB OTG? With both concerns of mine being addressed thru these options I will most likely grab this phone.

Np glad I could help out on that one :)

By multi-colored alerts do you mean having the notification LED change colors? If so, this hasn't been a stock options on my last several HTC phones. If the LED is capable of multiple colors, someone will figure out how to take advantage of that. I just don't know if the hardware is there.

I remember reading a review that stated OTG was working on the One. It isn't ideal to carry around a separate adapter + flash drive but I guess it could be handy in certain situations. I think I paid less than $2 for my OTG cable.

Well as far as music goes I would recommend Google Music. It stores all of your music in the cloud for free (Up to 25,000 songs). I just stream my playlists from there and with Sprint your data is unlimited so no concerns on using it all up. As for movies I have a program called PlayOn installed on my PC with over 1000 movies on it. PlayOn also has an Android app and once it is paired with your PC you can stream from anywhere you have a data connection. Not ideal for 3g but it works great over WiFi and 4G. Just some thoughts :)

Another good option. I am a big music fan. As long as I can get Shazam, maybe a music player that has lyrics I will be good to go. Coming from BB apps were not a big concern for me, but now Skype and the likes will probably keep me pretty busy. Carrying around the storage solution isn't a big deal for me. This phone seems so high end I think it could be a little overwhelming starting over, although I look forward to it. I'm also hoping for a dock of some sort to surface for my desk at work. I'm a 2 phone person with a company BB as well so I don't get a lot of time on the personal cell during the day. It will be a learning experience for sure. Thanks again

TuneIn and SoundHound, great stuff together.

I have Tunein Radio pro now, as well as Nobex, Pandora, Iheartradio , Slacker and Stitcher. I have a media player with lyrics called Baamboo player I really like. I will search for SoundHound. I have another question. anyway to tether my Blackberry Playbook tablet to an android phone without using the phones hotspot feature? Blackberry phones have an option called bridge where it allows this with no additional charges or hotspot needed. Thanks

Edit-Just checked out SoundHound, that looks great.
