I finally purchased the Nexus 4, it was a hard debate between this and the S3 but this is my first Nexus and I want the satisfaction of knowing my update will sooner than later. I'm expecting the package to be here on Monday so currently I'm still using my Droid 3. Can anyone chime in and let me know your first reaction and do you still feel the same way, don't worry positive or negative responses will not sway my thoughts.

Thanks in advanced

I like my N4, I really do... but I can't help but wonder what it would have been like getting the SGS3 or Note2.

I HATE the lack of external storage. I knew that going in but didn't expect it to bother me as much as it does.

Great phone though!

Yep its annoying not having external storage but I've got a couple of cloud accounts to save stuff in. Maybe with the N5 they might add it in.

The lack of storage space is semi annoying, but I'm getting used to working around it. Once I change network in October and move over to unlimited data, I'll be able to take my MP3's off here and start using Play Music. That'll free up a couple of GB and make things easier.

It's a great phone though - fast, the screen is amazing and battery life is immense. Very easy to root too if that's your thing.

That being said, I came from a One X which is now in the custodianship of Mrs Presidente. I hated it at the time (which is why I got the N4 and I don't hate it so much any more), there are some things I miss like the camera and build quality. I don't regret switching though.

Not likely. Googles bwen steering away from expandable storage for a long time now.

Theyll probably have larger options, but provably not sd cards

Recent rumors are the nexus 4 will get LTE and a 32 gb option at google I/O

I'm pleased with all the input, I've rooted my Droid 3 and Evo so I'm eager to root my N4. I already looked in the all things root but can you let me know what method you used to root yours?

Wugs toolkit. It takes a little effort to correctly set up the drivers, but other than that, the entire process is thoroughly painless. You can be up and running with a custom ROM in about half an hour. :)

Nyce! I've downloaded in advanced I'll take my time since I'm in no rush, but once I pull the trigger, time to begin the rom hoping once again

Have to ask if your planning on rooting and and using custom roms why did the timely updates play a role? The s3 has almost as big delvelopment community as the nexus and is just as simple to unlock the bootloader and root. But your first impression of the nexus will be good. It is a nice phone. The first thing though youll notice is how slippery it actually is though lol

You chose wisely....

First reaction: You pull the box up to reveal the most beautiful damn phone ever made. Then you ask yourself "How in the world could somebody make a phone this beautiful?

Then you power it on. That screen then takes your original thought to another level..

And no, it never gets old.....all these new phones coming out? Don't care one bit. I own a nexus 4.

You are alone.

He's not, really.

Kelmar makes some excellent points in the post above mine. I'd be inclined to agree, the glass, glittery back is terrible and part of the reason I'm using a proper case, not a bumper of sorts.

Of course if a case isn't your thing, look at the dbrand vinyl skins, they're excellent.

you must of really loved the optimus g when it came out then.....considering there almost the identical exact same phone. Except the g has a little bit better specs.

Most people that buy nexus phones do so for the AOSP experience. My bet is he/she didn't buy the optimus g because he/she didn't like it as much.

They were commenting on the build quality look and screen which has zero to do with the asop experience. I kinda wish they would of kept the straight lines of the g though. In my opinion it makes it look more sleeker and higher end. They rounded the n4 to much to resemble the galaxy nexus.

5 or 6 hours I think? Although switched on, I didn't play with it at all during that period though (I didn't even put the SIM in).

Do you think that improved your overall battery life? Reason is, my current phone does not last very long so I want to get enough advice now and avoid the charger as much as possible.

Not all batteries are created equal. You'll often find many different opinions about battery calibrating as well. Sometimes you just get a bad battery, it happens unfortunately. :(

I'm not sure, I have absolutely 0 problems with battery life so I suppose you could say yes. :)

It's a sort of common misconception that the battery needs a few charge/discharge cycles for it to know it's real capacity. Whilst it does take a 10-14 days to start performing optimally (I've found that with all my devices), it doesn't absolutely require a full discharge after the initial charge.

Fwiw, battery life on the N4 is easily the best on any smartphone I've owned. As jhawkkw points out though, not all batteries are created equal so your mileage may vary.

The other thing to take into account is that batteries degrade over time with use and age. Most batteries tend to only have 50-60 percent of their original capacity after about a year. Battery technology isn't nearly as sophisticated out advanced as a lot of the other areas. This is why I'm so against two year contacts with small capacity non-removable battery phones. A 2100mah battery might only be around 1100 after the first year and you still have another to go. At least the Nexus devices are cheap enough that upgrading each year is actually do able.
