I found a way to eliminate for those of us with custom ROMs without changing and system properties.
1.) flash MB3 update http://androidforums.com/reverb-all-things-root/694991-flashable-mb3-baseband.html
2.) you will still see the update unless you so a factory restore this will restore you to a stock version of your custom ROM or should at least. *WILL DELETE ALL DATA*
3.) re-install all of your apps and get all of your info back
4.) enjoy your updated baseband with out the notification
*note you may have to try and install the update once more afterwards to get the notification to disappear permanently

If you want the Jelly bean update this wont happen on a Custom ROM, so if you have your stock backup revert back to it and check for updates you may have to install the baseband update before you can get the jelly bean update the rest is self explanatory

** All credit goes to my adventurous nature trying to find a way to update to Jelly bean and instead stopping the baseband update

Didn't work for me, still getting the "Status 7" error. Before doing your update, I installed the rooted stock and deodexed template updates, followed the MB3 update. I then did a factory reset, same error. For some reason I'm on ICS but I have the Jelly Bean Baseband, I wonder if it somehow stayed because the first day I tried updating to Jelly Bean(May 16th) it got stuck in a boot loop so I had to recover.

I'm in the same position. Getting the Status 7 error when it tried updating again about an hour ago. I did a factory reset yesterday then just now flashed the stock ICS rom and still getting the cache Status 7 error. I'm not sure what to do now..all I want is stock rooted Jellybean!

try recovering to your stock backed up rom if you have one, if you don't try this for now this link has 4.0.4. stock rom (once its in the folder you have to recover it not flash it so put it in your backup folder) and soon it will have jelly bean as well, afterwards make sure you flash the MB3 baseband after you have all of these if you follow the force update steps here . This should work i cant seem to get mine to force update but i also am no longer a virgin mobile customer and i think that's why i cant update, just let me know if it works, if not just wait til the jelly bean recovery back-up comes out.

Thanks, I tried restoring the stock rom but I got an error while restoring /system. Also for some reason I have the MB3 baseband but had an error while upgrading to JB a couple days ago. I'm not sure if this is normal or not. My head is kind of spinning right now from all the possibilities and possible fixes.

Do you have signature verification on if you don't you may have to after if errors the first time if it says yes install unverified.zip(may not say that exactly) click that it should work if not is there a way you take a picture or somthing of the error
