I just got the S4 with Verizon a couple of weeks ago and I'm seeing an issue where I will be listening to something through the headphones and all of a sudden, the volume is either at its highest or will be so low its muted. The issue seems to resolve after I reset my phone but I just reset it three days ago and its not something that I want to do that often. Anyone else see this issue? I'm open to wiping the phone but only if it will actually fix something....

hmm. i have a similar "issue" that happens when i raise the volume all the way and i'm wearing headphones. there's a little notification that comes up when it happens that says something like "we don't trust you to listen to music at high volumes and we're also unaware of the fact that headphones have their own volume controls, so we're just gonna change this for you without giving you an option", and then the volume is lowered to about 50%. i hate it. is this what's happening to you possibly?

You aren't in the US by any chance are you?

When I turn tbe volume up I get a warning but it gets louder anyway. I cannot help thinking this is some nonsense driven by your litigious culture like the stupid warnings on cups of coffee that they are hot (who knew coffee was hot eh?).

However I may be completely wrong and your phones may just be broken

Mine decreases by 50% each time I plug in the aux cable in the car. (The phone interprets it as headphones.) So every time I get in the car I have to raise the volume. It drives me nuts.

Samsung really screwed the pooch on the volume control in the music app. I really like the stock music app as it does everything I want fairly well except for control the volume properly.

First, every time you plug in an Aux cable or headphones the volume goes back to 9. And then when you want to raise the volume, I keep getting a warning about how loud volumes can damage your hearing. Really?? So Samsung is now playing nanny police. Very annoying. And then the last problem is the "Smart Volume" control so all tracks play equally loud...nothing "smart" about it. It kind of works but every time I start the music app, I have to re-engage the feature. It never stays on. If you touch the volume, it also turns off. Very poorly implemented.

It really seems to me that this volume control issue (as well as many other screwed up features) are indicative of a company that doesn't understand how customers use their phone and doesn't really know how (or doesn't want) to make the software customize-able so options/features can be on or off.
