So I got the s4 yesterday and upon activation, it asked me to update. I said no thanks and the phone said it wouldn't remind me again. I though we were good.

I was planning on rooting this weekend, but im in a bind now.

it asked me to install, and I selected to post pone it until 11am tomorrow. But if I dont do it by then, it will automatically install.

How do I stop this?

I wanted to just root. Dont need to unlock the bootloader at this time.

if I root it tonight, can stop the update with out the bootloader unlocked.

if so, what the easiest way to do accomplish this.

Help please, im on a deadline.

One more time (let's hear it for copy and paste!):

If you're rooted but on stock rom, do this to stop OTA's:

The actual OTA download will be located in /cache. Delete with Root Browser or Root File Manager if present.

Freeze via Titanium Backup: FWUpgrade.apk and SDM.apk

Use Root Browser or Root File Manager to:
Rename file: /etc/security/otacerts.zip to otacerts.zip.bak
Rename file: /system/app/ wssyncmlnps.apk to wssyncmlnps.apk.bak

Then do the following:
1. Open Root Browser or Root File Manager
2. Navigate to data/fota
3. Long Press and select Permissions
4. Uncheck all boxes making it 0000

The last bit is overkill, but you can do it if the OCD kicks in.

Thanks!

But I'm not rooted. In was going to root this weekend dince the phone just arrived last night. It arrived without the update. I have declined it, but downloaded anyways.

Unrooted, can I delete this?

Should I delete this, or just try to root tonight?

If I root tonight, what is the fastest way to just root so I can follow the instructions above?

Thanks in advance.

Unless of course you're not on one of the latest plans. :)

BTW, I read the request as the WiFi toggle, not the WiFi Hotspot toggle, which is not the same thing.

I'm not on a family share plan, I have an unlimited plan. The day I have to give that up, I will no longer be on Verizon.

Podivin is correct.

No looking for Wifi Hotspot. I'm looking for the Wifi toggle that came with the latest update.

Anyone know where that toggle is located?
