Help General questions thread/discussion (New to Android/M7?)

I tried searching on this and ironically found a thread in my previous device's forum (HTC Desire) from 2010, describing exactly the same restriction. Which means I don't hold out much hope :(

I did wonder whether a third party contacts app might offer it, but couldn't find one which mentioned the feature. I tried one, but it just used the standard contact adding dialogue - which TBH is what I'd have done to maintain compatibility. So while there might be something out there, I've not been able to find it so far.

Thanks for the kind reply. I wonder why HTC removed this custom option from their contacts option and left it only available for their Google contacts. It should be a standard function/label for any smartphone. One less feature when compared to a current Samsung smartphone which does not help their sales numbers.

Hello Everybody !

I've long been an iOS fan for many years and am new to Android and the HTC One.

Since I've bought it, I would like the experienced people here on this forum to help me out with some issues.

1) I like the multitasking bar as I believe its fairly efficient at getting things done and it provides a much better experience than the multitasking on iOS 6 or even 7. My only qualm is that is their any way that I can kill all running apps at once ?! The Samsung Galaxy S4 has a kill all button in its multitasking bar so I was wondering is their HTC equivalent ?!

2) My notification drawer is fairly empty, I was wondering if anyone would be as kind as to suggest some good apps / widgets ?!

Thank You and I appreciate anyone taking their time to help me !

To help with your questions, I can honestly say, I hadn't even thought to look for such an option. One of my older phones had it, but really, I don't see a need for it. The OS does a good enough job killing apps on an as-needed basis. Unless you are just talking about like when you have a ton of notifications up there, like for completed downloads, new mail notifications, etc. Pretty sure if you click the little X on the pulldown for the notification bar, that it will delete all of the notifications. It doesn't kill the apps that are running though.

Finally, as far as apps/widgets to recommend... that is a tough one. :) I use a lot at different times. Actually, on my One, I haven't really put a ton of widgets on, just apps. I of course have to have my PowerAmp widget for playing my music. I use the GSAM battery widget, and also use the toggle widgets from Beautiful Widgets for things like Brightness, turning the Wifi, bluetooth and Mobile data on and off, and also to replace the clock/weather. Haven't had a need for a ton of widgets yet.

I have a new HTC One. First I purchased one second hand and had the same issues, put it down to being used,it was also the X model. Here are the problems. I have to push the home button sometimes up to three times when in a app, so its slow to respond. It is refusing to send picture messages sometimes, at the moment two are stuck in limbo. It won't open a picture message sent too me. Anyone have any suggestions. I rang HTC no help there. I previously had a Velocity so I am not new to the HTC format. I judge it worse than the Velocity.

So, I use thumb keyboard, but one major issue I have with using it on my Samsung devices (as well as my mom and sisters devices) is whenever there is a reboot, I need to change the default from samsungs joke of a keyboard back to thumb keyboard.

My question is, does HTC do this too? If you use swift key or thumb keyboard or something on your One, do you need to change it after a reboot?

no,, this is not an issue on the ONE. I use swiftkey exclusively and I can change keyboards art will with no need to reenable back to my preferred keyboard after a reboot.

Hi all

Just got the HTC one the other day. I have the menu and back buttons no lighting up all the time. My wife's one is also doing the same.

I have read if the 2 sensors on the top left of the phone are covered it lights them up.
Which it did........

Is there a setup function to activate to keep on? Calibration???

Software or hardware problem?

Thanks in advance

so the buttons are lighting up and working normally, right?

and you want to know if there is a setting to keep them on all the time?

is this correct?

there is no user setting on the stock phone that does this.

there may be a 3rd party app out there.

feel free to post in the app section of this site posing that question and yyou should get some more responses.

I've made a recent switch from iPhone to HTC one. In the old phone, every time the phone is plugged in for charging, it vibrates or give off a notification sound. The same thing doesn't happen for HTC ONE. Is there an app or someway of setting which I could make it happen? Thanks

When you plug in your phone why not just look for the red charging light located in the top speaker grill? For everyday use and even in the dark it's the best tool in the world.

The app called Battery Notifier Pro BT will vibrate and provide you with a notification of your choosing. You may have to purchase the paid version for that specific setting to be unlocked. Try out the free version but if that doesn't include those settings the version you must pay for will have them.
