Help ASDA Nexus 7 tablet 2nd Gen. 4G LTE Query

If the 2012 model is anything to go by, out of the box, no. Maybe possible with a custom ROM.

Despite the description saying 4G LTE, if you check the specs, it doesn't mention 4G at all.

I'm also almost certain that google haven't given a release date for the 4G variant in the States either so I'm not positive we'll get it over here so soon.

I can't find anything confirming this but I'm sure I read that the 4G version isn't released yet in the US and isn't even confirmed yet for the UK. So that Asda one won't have a SIM slot.

Google confirmed an international model that is data enabled, but later confirmed that it won't come with LTE, only HSPA. Only the US (maybe North America?) version will have LTE.

All very interesting, some things to clear up:

- There will be two LTE variants, one for US/Japan, and one for the rest of the world. Google had included the rest of the world specs, and then deleted them. Also, see the spec sheet with Asus (specifically note 4): Nexus 7 (2013) - Tablets & Mobile - ASUS

- The N7 (2013) has been announced to launch in the UK on 28 August by Asus, priced as follows: 16GB 199gbp, 32GB 239gpb, 32GB with LTE 299gbp: Nexus 7 (2013) UK Release Date Confirmed By ASUS | Redmond Pie

Nexus 7 2 (2013) release date officially August 28 in UK [update] | Know Your Mobile

- The ASDA link is probably for the 32GB wifi model (if you look at the specifications link). HOWEVER, they have mentioned 4G LTE in the "description" section. So I guess, you could try and get them to honour the 239gpb price for the LTE variant (when that price is really for the 32GB wifi version). If you are going to take the plunge though, do take screen shots, to prove that its supposed to be the LTE version.

Right now, calls aren't made over LTE in most countries. All voice data goes over the old protocols.

This means that, if a device doesn't support the 2G protocols (the Nexus 7 does not support them), there's no real way to enable voice or SMS on it. You can, of course, use VOIP calling through a number of different applications - but there's no way to simply turn it into a phone.

This may all change once providers shift to Voice over LTE - which is coming, but isn't here yet.
