Alright guys .. how is every 1

Right i have a problems with a xperia z charger socket. . A bit problem.. i had my phone for about 2 weeks and one day i plugged it in to the charger as normal .. it then went boom .. popped off and brought the inner part of the socket out with it. Sent it off because it was faulty and sony have refused to fix it as they said it does not come under warrenty as its accidental damage (how that is i dont know).. i now have tryed to get it fixed but no shop will entertain me because they say they dont have the facilities to take the broken on off.. soo my question how to go out this ??

If, as you say, something went "boom" then the charger is most likely at fault. Whether it was this, or a fault with the internal hardware is immaterial however; if you used the supplied charging unit it isn't "accidental damage" it's a "manufacturing fault" which is covered by warranty. Did you return it to the retailer you purchased it from, as they're responsible under the Sale Of Goods Act? At only two weeks old I'd say you've a watertight case for claiming "unfit for intended purpose".

There's seemingly a fine line between declaring it a factory defect and user abuse... especially if it involves parts breaking off, etc.

Sony should at least do a thorough investigation of the phone. If there's any reasonable doubt that the problem was caused by a manufacturer defect (ie. cold solder), the phone should be rightfully replaced.

I worked in customer support for several years and I've probably seen it all. There's a systematic approach in determining whether a hardware fault was caused by user neglect or otherwise. Every equipment that goes through us had to be investigated and whether or not warranty is allowed, there's paperwork to be done to justify our decision.

There are a few exceptions which involves such things like cracked housings or displays that will obviously point to misuse. Beyond that, we work like a team of CSI agents. :D

I have the same problem. My Xperia Z is 4 months old and the charger socket has come away from the phone. In my case over about a week I notices that it was sometimes difficult to connect the charger to the phone. It appeared as if the socket was loose inside the phone and moving from side to side. It then eventually totally came away with the power charger.

In the UK Sony have outsourced their repair service and I simply received a quote back from them stating 'phone damages' and asking for

It is incredulous for Sony to claim that I have damaged the phone.

Actually it's not. By far the most common cause of damage to the microUSB charging port/connector is misuse; that type of connector was chosen specifically due to its robustness over the older miniUSB pattern. It's therefore natural that a manufacturer will assume accidental damage.

That said, you needn't accept their decision if the damage is definitely not caused by misuse. Contact them again, and politely but firmly reiterate that you used the handset (and charger) according to the instructions yet the damage occurred.

Full disclosure: my day job is with a large mobile phone retailer, so I've some experience. Stick to your guns, be firm but civil, and whenever possible go through the retailer that sold you the phone. Manufacturers aren't unsympathetic, but the risk of fraudulent warranty claims is so high that they're naturally sceptical until persuaded otherwise.
