Root [ROM][ICS] Paranoid Android Ver1.6 Beta from source (31JUL2013)

Question: Given that the Motorola Triumph already has the "search, menu, back and home" buttons below the screen, is there a way to turn off the "back, home and menu" buttons that are rendered on-screen by default?

Also, is using the standard Paranoid Android skin faster than 3rd party skins, or are there even faster options? Sometimes it seems laggy when it comes to menus loading. I'm not sure if that's due to my Themes Chooser, or PA itself.

Last but not least, is there any way to get Google Now on PA, or is there a 4.1 or later ROM other than PA available for the Triumph? I haven't been able to find a custom ROM for Triumph that has support for Google Now out of the box.

Thanks for all the help and keep up the great work!

I don't use Google Now so I can't comment on how well it works, but if you go back to the OP you'll find the info on how to get it up and running on this ROM.

To fix that, go to Settings>System>Navigation Bar and uncheck "Softkeys (onscreen buttons)".

Thank you very much, that worked perfectly.

I'll try it again. Previously, I did follow the instructions and it seemed to be installed up until the point of first use, but then it would always go to a white screen and crash to the home screen. Any ideas?

Thank you both for the help!

A couple more thing I noticed:
1. GPS locking takes too long. Sometimes can't get GPS fix outdoors. The solution is to reboot.. I waited 20 minutes to get GPS to work before a trip....
2. Google Maps is not very responsive.. It froze during navigation (text, voice are correct but map stopped updating).. might be resource related...reboot is the fix
3.tether prevents the phone itself from using Internet and tether traffic is not counted in data usage, and still no option to change channel..
4. Sometimes it loses connection and do not seem to reattempt association.. So my phone is occasionally stuck in no service mode until I manually toggle airplane mode

GPS issue is kinda problematic... gps fix -- phone going into sleep --- lose gps fix (another 20 minutes waiting)

I've never been able to get GPS working properly on this phone. Seems the only way I get a "lock" is by letting it use the wifi and that doesn't do me any good if I'm driving.

I've used the 3g connection with great success, unless I loose signal. Like when I would head to Orlando. It's like everybody is on the network there.

Hey, I have two bugs to report, both with the Lock Screen.

1. When the lock screen is set to PIN, if you receive a call or a text and decide to ignore it, the screen turns on and never shuts off until the power button is pressed, or the pin is entered and the screen times out.

2. It is impossible to use the Pattern lock screen, as the button to start the pattern creation process is rendered off of the phone's screen and cannot be pushed.

Anyone else seeing these issues?

I've seen the off screen button issue, for receiving calls the answer side is off the screen, I think what you have to do is go into the paranoid settings and change the display size so it will fit right, I have mine set to phone UI and the pattern lock is fully on the screen for me

Hey Bsydz, here is the summary of the Jul31 build issues you requested with the users who reported them:

Issues:
Lag when using haptic feedback enabled (sweener, Hatchasaurus, RedFiero88, RolaAddict)

Delayed SMS, reboot will cause several to be received. Had this happen several times (jr9306, RedFiero88, RolaAddict)

Random reboots (didn’t get these initially but they’re getting frequent now) (RedFiero88)

Messaging app closes randomly (fix permissions and clearing dalvik cache helps this, it comes back sometimes though) (GKNByNW, jr9306, RedFiero88, RolaAddict)

Roam of Death – (Hatchasaurus, RedFiero88, RolaAddict)

Proximity sensor flashes screen during call – even if auto brightness is enabled (RedFiero88, nalf38, delgads2, Hatchasaurus, RolaAddict)

Lockscreen gets stuck - (Hatchasaurus, RedFiero88, RolaAddict)

Contacts app slow to load – (Hatchasaurus, RedFiero88)

Wi-Fi prevents deep sleep (known issue)
What works better:
GPS seems pretty solid (cowboy44mag), rpm14 got reboots though

No jumbled text (RolaAddict)

No reboots (GKNByNW, RolaAddict)

If anyone wants to add anything or make changes then reply or message me. I'll gladly clarify anything I can.

Thank you Bsydz for your continued support!

Here is something I found that is very interesting about the video on our camera on this ROM.Like I have been saying for awhile now it seems like the camera will stream live feed from the camera to the user that you are chatting with on whatever video app you have (Skype,ooVoo,Tango, ect). But when we try to save a video recording it won't work.Well I downloaded the new update for ooVoo and they now allow video recording from the app itself. When I did it IT WORKED!I was able to record a 19 second video and send it on ooVoo.The video didn't save to the SD card so it makes me think that there is something in the permissions that could be keeping it from saving. The video was not that great of quility but hey at least this could give us info to go in the right direction to have EVERYTHING fixed on ICS.I will get an alogcat together on this and post it.

I'm not running PA at the moment, but when I did a couple of weeks ago I also had the following issues:

- Lag when using haptic feedback enabled.

- Delayed SMS, reboot will cause several to be received.

- Messaging app closes randomly (I had a few of these, but it was mostly Handcent that was crashing over and over again; the stock app was much more stable, but also crashed).

- Roam of Death (This is why I'm not running PA any more, see below)

- Proximity sensor doesn't seem to work at all; have to manually turn on screen to end a call.

ABOUT THE ROAM OF DEATH: I would get this occasionally (like, once every 3-4 days) at first. But after a couple of weeks, my phone roamed non-stop. I could neither make or receive calls, thus rendering the whole thing useless. I decided to go back to CM7, but found that I was also roaming there, too (well, not roaming, but "Searching for Service"). I emailed VM, and they said that the tower closest to me was having problems, and had been for a day or two. The next morning (under CM7) the phone was fine, and has been ever since. So in my case it's possible that I was roaming in PA because the signal was so weak from the tower. I've also had some SMS strangeness lately under both PA and CM7; although this could also be related to the issues with my tower, it *did* seem much worse under PA than CM7.

Thanks for being so kick-ass, man!

I don't use haptic feedback, less vibration is better IMHO

I have not had this issue

Thanks for the feedback.

1. Can't really say as I have never used pin lock. There is a history of awkward screen states after calls, that are remedied by the power button, I have not looked in to it myself, sorry I can't be of more help.

2. Just rotate the phone to set the pattern lock and there shouldn't be any issues once it is set up. I have used it before with no issues.

Hope this helps.

My level of satisfaction with the July 31 build is high enough that I don't think I'm going to bother with the new tester. I've been running July 31 for over a month now and aside from the usual quirks and minor annoyances I have had no major issues at all. Thank you, BSydz, for continuing to improve it. I imagine your task is becoming more and more difficult, as things are so good that there's not much room left for improvement :) :)

Thank you very much for the kind words, it is getting to the point of real hard work to figure out the last few issues. I have made some headway on hdmi but still don't have my head wrapped around the whole code and what it interacts with.

Might wanna give it a shot though. The touch screen seems to be much better and haven't had any of the issues that were supposed to be addressed. This is not as much a tester as a release posted as a tester just to make sure, I didn't change much, just what I knew should work.

If you are already setup just make a backup, wipe cache and flash as normal including gapps. That is how I have been doing it for the last 20 builds or so with no ill effects. Everything stays intact and you get the updates. Hell I haven't backed up my phone in a while at least through 4 of the last builds, just wiped cache and all is good. It is the same system just minor changes, I don't recommend doing it from ROM to ROM, but even CM9 to PA is the same just minor differences.

Again, thanks for the feedback and the kind words. It is difficult to find all the issues, as I don't use the phone that much, or for many different things. So it always helps when we have an active community. Plus, now that you don't need an account to post on this forum, I would hope to see a few more people chime in. The May build had over a thousand downloads and the July 31st ROM had almost 600. That tells me we still have a decent sized user community. If I continue working on this project and others like JB, I would expect at least some feedback.

Thanks again for all those that participate in this community and continue to help as we move forward.
