Hi all,
I'm having a device idle battery drain issue with my Samsung Galaxy S4, and I was hoping I could get some input on it. I took screenshots of my battery info, but since I'm a new user I don't know if I'll be able to post attachments yet, so I'll post the data as well.
(EDIT: Looks like I was able to attach images at the bottom.)
I got the phone in late July, and I initially had battery drain issues, but once I shut off all the syncing, location searching, disabled apps I won't use, etc., the problem went away. I was only losing a few percentage points of battery overnight, and I only had to charge my phone every other day.
A few days ago, I was trying to upload a photo to Facebook, and my phone froze doing it. (It was in the notifications bar forever, neither going through or failing.) I decided to just power off and then power on my phone, and that fixed the upload problem, but I noticed my phone downloaded a bunch of updates afterwards -- I didn't get the chance to see what they all were.
Since then, the battery drain on my phone has increased significantly. I was only charging every other day before, but now I have to charge before 24 hours are even up, and that's with extremely limited screen time. It looks like the biggest culprit is the "device idle" battery drain, which I know wasn't this much before. I went to bed at about 10:30pm last night with 67% battery left, and I woke up at 8:00am with 17% battery left. In the History Details, under Awake, there are little blue bars popping up repeatedly, which seems to indicate that there's something waking up my phone every once in a while and draining battery, but I can't figure out what it is.
I checked my data usage, since that was the problem before (with Google Maps and the like), but it's all normal.
My battery stats are:
19h 5m 44s on battery
43% screen (58m "on" time)
23% device idle (the "on" time is over 18 hours)
9% Chrome
8% Cell standby
8% Android System
5% Android OS
Honestly, I'm totally stymied, and I can't locate anything my phone downloaded that might have caused this. Could this be a temporary problem that will fix itself? Do I need to do a factory reset? Any ideas would be great.
