I wanted a customized Moto X. On Verizon, that may not be a reality. I could live with a black one, it's fine.

But I'm also thinking about "device freedom". Getting updates quicker (assuming I stick to Nexus devices) and what not. AT&T (or any GSM provider, but preferably AT&T) would offer me that.

Next, I have an unlimited data plan, and please believe me when I say I have no intentions of jeopardizing that (if I stay with Verizon). So much so, that I would buy my phone at cost (Though Verizon is only offering a 16GB version... wtf?). But this leaves me in the same boat... it's a mid phone, at cost, that I'd have to root to get "updated" software... :(

Next, I get a nice discount with Verizon, that I wouldn't get with AT&T.

Idk what to do. Also, I have 4 months left in my VZW contract. Not so much a deal breaker, but still. Is what I am calling "device freedom" really worth it?

You'll be able to customize in November, if you can wait. They will get the 32gb then. Possibly sooner with the Developer Edition, but no word on specifics of the DE yet.

You won't get updates quicker with At&t or T-mobile unless you a Nexus phone thru them. When VoLte starts up at Verizon you should have more of a selection of phones unless they find a way to screw us with that?

The Moto X is not a mid range phone.

I'm on an individual plan. I don't know that I want to wait that long, but that's because I'm being a brat more than anything else. I could really just root and flash my phone and have the latest software. I wish Moto would release more details about the Moto X on Verizon as far as customization or at least bigger size. Honestly, 16GB?

Well, the Developer Edition is supposed to be out VERY SOON and it carries 32GB onboard. As long as it does all the cool Moto X stuff without all the bloatware, it's a done deal for me.

I'm on unlimited too, so I'll be paying full retail for this pup. May as well get the good one. I could wait until November and get one with nice gold buttons... but I don't HAVE to. Customization is a want, not a need. 32GB is a need.

I highly doubt a DE will come out on Verizon. Verizon isn't very keen on letting you tinker around with the phone. I don't see them putting out a phone that's made just for that. Thoughts?

Also, where is this November customization for Verizon coming from? I haven't seen anything online, what am I missing? LOL

DE phones aren't sold thru Verizon you have to get them from the manufacturer.

At&t has exclusivity for MotoMaker upto sometime in November after that is available for ALL carriers.

Oh... I didn't think a manufacturer could put out a developer phone for Verizon's network without it going through the same approval hoops as any other phone that lands on Verizon. How is a DE phone treated differently (by Verizon) than any of the other handsets on its network? (if at all).

Do tell...

The gist of it is you order your phone from the Verizon website. But first transfer your upgrade to another phone on your plan that doesn't have unlimited data. Upgrade the phone without the unlimited data with whatever new phone your heart desires. When the phone arrives, activate the new phone on the line without the unlimited data. Wait about an hour and then switch sim cards. Your new phone is now on your unlimited line and the old phone is now on the other line.

Just did this a week ago to get an HTC ONE on my unlimited line. Worked with no issues

I just got my moto X with this said "loophole". When I talked to VZW, they didnt like me calling it a loophole...she said its fine what you are doing.

Here is a good link. https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/780799

For the OP:

Wait for the DE. Since you are ok with paying full price anyway. You will buy it straight from Moto, then simply take it to VZW and activate it.
