[Verizon] Noobs quest to go from 4.1.1 to 4.2 JB ROM...

Hello everyone,

Currently I am running Codename(Android) 3.5.0. So I have read through a lot of the FAQ, and am trying to do this correctly. My phone is a daily driver so I cannot have it down for much time. I also use a ton of BT devices do need this to be stable. I would love to use 4.3 on a custom ROM, but I'll wait a few months for things to "settle" out.

I read about using a .layout_version file to prevent the creation of multi-user accounts. Is this working?

If so I am having a hard time understanding where it should go. When I look at my file structure I kind of get lost. Here is what I see from a terminal window. There maybe some directories missing. I included just enough to give you an idea of what is where. I have hidden it because it is so big.

Can someone tell me where I should put this file and how do I rename it on my phone? I cannot put a "." in front of a file with my windows machine.

I am considering CyanogenMod Milestone 2 or KANG's rom (shooting for a 4.2 android OS and will get a 4.3 later, but need to get over the hump of the multi-user fix). Are there any kernels that work better or worse with these (I will be using the kernels that come with them, but wanted to know if there were other better kernels people liked)?

I have updated to ClockworkMod 6.0.3.6. There were some posts about using team win recovery project (TWRP) instead. Does it matter which I have installed?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Sorry for the late reply.

I did the .layout_version file trick and it _might_ have helped. All it really did was prevent the new "0" directory to be created inside of /data/media. Now my stuff is still in /sdcard, and mirrored in a few other places.

After I transferred the file to my 'internal storage' via windows, I used SUFBS to rename it and put in /data. As far as the version of CWRecovery, you should be fine as that is the same I used.

good luck
