i'm looking into upgrading from the 2012 model and was thinking about the LTE-enabled one. and then i noticed that there are 3 different listings.

https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=nexus_7_16gb_2013

what is the difference between "LTE", "LTE AT&T", and "LTE T-Mobile". each are priced at $349.

i don't see the need for specific carrier versions. for example with an AT&T phone, you could use it on T-Mobile, and vice versa. or an even better example the Nexus 4, you could use it on both AT&T and T-Mobile.

PS: each listing states the exact same frequency information.
Wireless
Dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz/5GHz) 802.11 a/b/g/n
LTE: 700/850/1700/1800/1900/2100 MHz
HSPA+: 850/900/1900/2100/AWS (1700/2100) MHz
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
Bluetooth 4.0
NFC (Android Beam)

and off-topic, would i be able to use my AT&T phone SIM card in the tablet? i've transferred it between different phones, and i've continued to receive service and data. would the same thing happen in this instance?

how does non-US SIM cards work on it too?

1) I'm guessing that the frequency specs are listed as one set of specs for all versions combined. TMO and ATT use different frequencies.

2) Any SIM card can be used in any phone that's locked to that carrier or is unlocked.

3) Non-US SIM? Depends on whether the device is locked or not, and whether it has the frequencies used in that country. (Using a non-US SIM in the US with a phone that works in the US will work - but will probably be painfully expensive.)

They're not carrier specific versions, it the same device except they give you a postpaid sim card with your purchase to make activation easier. The device is completely sim unlocked so it will work on any carrier that supports those frequencies.

thank you!

if i had taken a closer look at the item titles on each page:
Nexus 7 (32GB, WiFi + Mobile data, unlocked)
Nexus 7 (32GB, WiFi + Mobile data, Unlocked + AT&T SIM)
Nexus 7 (32GB, WiFi + Mobile data, Unlocked + T-Mobile SIM)

i would have noticed that was the difference. instead i was reading all over the description and specs for anything different.

so since they are unlocked, and unlocked in the phone-world means it can take any SIM card, what does that mean when using a phone-SIM card?

i've read around that in the case of Verizon, they issue a tablet-SIM card. i'm assuming they do some backend stuff on their end to tell the difference. but what about popping in my AT&T phone-SIM card into the tablet every once and a while? will it work?

Using a phone sim card would hypothetically work (assuming correct size), unless the carrier cuts off service to it.
