Root [Avail 2] Root available?

This phone has a bad problem. Even if the phone is locked. You can activate the quick menu. Sliding you finger from top to bottom and get into the settings. This can allow anyone to completly erase the phone.

And If you want, you can turn on the Developer Option USB Debugging and connect the phone to your computer. Hello, you have just now gained access to the phone. No password, PIN, required.

Are these people crazy!!!!

I would like to meet the person that suggested the Power Button Option to hang up the phone.

The only way to wake this phone up or activate the screen is to use the Power Button. Try looking at your phone to turn on speaker phone after you recieve a call. If you have the default 5 second screen blank you have to drop the call if you are not fast enough.

You're silly those features can be disabled both the ring slider on the lock screen as well as the power button to hang up calls. As far as the blackout time with the call when you take it away from your ear..i've never had any issues with the length and find it's about the same across most devices.

As far as connecting the phone while usb debugging mode is enabled even while the device is locked...Well when you enable usb debugging mode you assume responsibility for the fact that you're opening an attack vector...ya know it's disabled by default for a reason...

I removed a ton of bloatware from this device as soon as i gained root. The device is an "economic" build and as such isn't a power house. It's slow at times and to have it weighed down by unnecessary applications is just...well stupid.

Anyway after removing the bloat and customizing a few things..i'm quite happy with this device..even if it's slow at times!

On another note under developer settings i would limit background processes to 2...Anymore and you're asking for issues as facebook/messenger and a few other apps like to keep starting new threads everytime you access them... I fiddled with the threadcount and found 2 to be a pretty decent setting for this phone...At least for me.

I agree with your assessment. The phone is great for the price. If you get it to the basics, it is perfect for the use vs price. What I am getting at is this. First, let me have the radio ( IE, Phone Service ) solid then I will consider the Data ( IE, Apps section) as a plus.

The three things I am looking for in this forum is simple and should be the goal of all.
1. Remove all applications, tools, and trash that comes pre-installed on the phone so you can have only what you are willing to use.
2. Limit the menus and selections to what YOU want to see.
3. Secure the phone enough to keep itchy fingers from changing your settings without your permission.

My point in previous post on the power button. Yes, it is not a default setting but if you turn it on. You must disable other features that lengthen the battery life or security of the phone.

Seems my post didn't make it to the thread...Anyway.

Awesome, Motorhead!

Once i extracted the recovery.img and started poking around the ramfs I naturally located the recovery.fstab and releasekey.x509.pem, no pk8 file that i can locate..not surprised it is the secret part of the key anyway...maybe there's a place i haven't looked..

I'm proficient enough with *nix to perform maintenance, builds and a few other nifty tricks xD. However, i'm no guru and tend to steer clear
of kernel related matters... I did look over the config file you dropped anyway and found a few areas that peeked my interest
specifically concerning RNDIS and some drivers..

I'm assuming you'll use that information in compiling a custom kernel for CWM and any future ROM's. Not really my area of expertise.

I'm interested in how you're flashing the recovery partition for testing CWM are you simply using a signed zip? Or is there another attack vector you're using
such as FTM mode which...i'm not really that familiar with, if you have any documentation on FTM/Diag mode that would be spectactular!.

Finally, i come to the bread & butter of this response..

I'm interested in testing!! If you're up for that kind of thing ^_~ i understand the risks involved but the tinkerer in me
just can't resist!

Actually being root lets you use a very common unix command. Familiar with dd? :p

Anyways, there's a problem with the framebuffer so I either have to pony up and buy one of these or see if I can find a way to modify the graphics.c file so it will work

Very interested in testing as well. I have root access but no luck so far on a CWM. Any test builds please pm me a DL link and I will test away.

Hi guys.... i see many of you gained root access to the phone.
Do you think it could be possible to have a "Unlock the zte992 Tutorial for dummies" in the short future?
I'm far from being an expert as you guys regarding these things, but I would really like to gain access to my phone, specially to get reed of all the junk that comes with it.

"Unlock the zte992 Tutorial for dummies"Cecilia

Here is the simple way Cecilia.

First Download the Impactor from here Cydia Impactor
Go into settings of phone > Developer Options > Allow USB Debuging.
Plug Phone into computer. Select Allow PC Software for phone.
Run the Impactor.
Hit the start button and let it run.
When finished. Disconnect from computer and Restart phone.
Goto Play store and download SU app.
Run the app.
Your phone should show that it is rooted.
If it is. You may download SNAPPEA.com
Reconnect you phone and back it up using snappea.
You can use Titanium Backup too.
Once you have it backed up by the two ways. You can slowly remove any bloatware.
One Word of Warning...... "DO NOT REMOVE" Black Hole or Bubbles.
These are not apps. These are firmware correctors. I did and regretted it.
Remove a little at a time and only what you do not use.
My phone is perfect but I have yet to be able to make a ROM image. It no longer connects to the internet and Google. The playstore is killed but I can use Snappea for all my apps.

Just remember, when you remove all links to keep your phone from running wild, you can't update it as easy. A GO phone is just that. A cheap and easy to use phone.

Rooting the phone allows you to remove the apps you don't want to use permanantly. You can go into the settings and turn them off. They are disabled and will remain that way until you turn them back on.

As far as I can tell, you don't have to root the phone to turn the apps off.
Be carefull. Once Rooted. You can really kill a lot and mess up the phone.
Restoring the phone back to factory does not work all the time.

Actually, BlackHole and Bubbles are live wallpapers, ZTE just sucks at programming.

Thanks marquis6461.
I'm interesting in rooting the phone because I'll be moving soon to another country and I will need to unlock it... and as I far as I know, you need to root it first in order to get it unlock. Right?
Thanks for the tips...

Not always, but root never hurts.

Motorhead1991 Said "Actually, BlackHole and Bubbles are live wallpapers, ZTE just sucks at programming."

I thought the same thing. And you may be right. That is why I deleted them. But when I did. My phone really did fall into a black hole..

I was really thankfull I had bought 2 phones. One for me and one for my wife. I was able to get mine back to a workable condition. Still not using it on a daily basis because of the Notification problem. I still can't see why that doesn't bother everyone but me. Touch screen phones can't really tell if it is a finger or an ear.
"For All those that read these posts beyond this."
I hate a phone that is smarter than me and I have to pay for being dumb.
I bought this phone for 2 reasons. One, it didn't require you give up part of your soul to have.
Two, It is not on the Top Ten Phones to steal list.

The Best Phone to have has not been made yet. When it has, you will pay for it and gladly. Until then, we must suffer with wantabes.

And as Motorhead1991 says. Rooting just gives you the control over the phone you should have had in the first place. A great phone is one that works no matter what is left in. Too many times we pay for things we didn't ask for. We need to stop.

I no longer use the Z992 as a phone because AT&T says I must pay $30.00 a month for having a smartphone on my plan.

I now use it as a mp3 player. Until someone can figure out how to shut down the features that I don't want, and make the phone work. I will keep my non-smartphone and play with my player.

I recently managed to root the Z992 with the Cydia Impactor method.....easy enough. But then I started using Titanium to remove (not freeze) stock apps one by one, apps which I was pretty sure weren't necessary. And for a few days I had no ill effects. And the phone got noticeably faster as I did so. So I just kept tweaking away, and after a few days alot of apps started force-closing, "<name of app here> has stopped working", etc. I've already tried wiping data/cache/dalvik in recovery mode, and doing a factory reset. But it just keeps restoring me to the same screwed up crap I was in before. I already know why. I used Titanium to convert some apps to system apps, and some system apps to user apps. And so now when I do a factory restore, it only restores the ones marked as system apps, clearly the others I had converted to user apps werent reinstalled along with the reset.

So now what I'm requesting is, if someone can upload a copy of the 100% stock rom, then that would be great, along with instructions on how to flash it. I have some experience flashing ASUS devices and Samsung devices, mainly the Transformer pad, and the Note 2, but have also rooted miscellaneous other devices in the past without alot of issues. But I have no experience with ZTE.

It seems that all the topics here about the Avail on androidforums.com seem to be focused on the original Avail, but not for the Avail 2. I understand there's very little demand for this device.

Thanks for any help!

Ok, so I have no clue what i'm doing and this phone makes me angry. I felt like rooting it and getting rid of some bloat ware and having more control over my phone would be great. But alas, I have no idea what i'm doing. The last rooted phone I had was an S2 Skyrocket. My friend did all of it for me but we no longer speak. HELP.
