My Experience with Kit Kat (Android 4.4)

Lol.
Dont you have to have the screen on though (be in the GE homescreen) for voice activation to work though?
On the new Motos, its "always on" so even with the screen off, its "listening".
That would kill our batteries because we dont have the dedicated low power core so although its probably possible.. we really wouldnt want that on an s3
P.s, i just use home to wake the phone (takes me to DynamicNotifications lockscreen) then home again to unlock that (i dont care about security) so no fingerprints unless theres something i wana reply to :)
Think my point is, we're limited by hardware even though our phone may be more powerful than moto G or X

Oh i could disable the lock screen but then it'd be butt dialing folks and launching apps in my pocket. true story. tried that once and discovered how sensitive to touch the power and home keys are on the S3, and i found out the hard way that i had 'opened' Play Store and had inadvertently installed a few dozen apps and the screen had been on the entire time and ran the battery down. that wasn't wanky voice control that was my phone waking up in my pants and hitting things as it moved around in there as i worked.

Aaaugh, my monthly data ran out tonight and we dont have broadband so i had to connect to my wifes or her cousins phone hotspot and when i did, it was like a cascade lol app after app force closed and it happened over three KK CM based roms.
Anyone had that?
(Ill post this in the ART thread too incase its maybe an ART fault [all my 4.4 roms are on Android Run Time now].. when i restored to Carbon rom 4.3.1 everythin works fine while tethered)
Dalvik does feel slow though and i KNOW its not placebo lol.

Them calling themselves a 'Google' Company is a gimmick.

No, it's factual. Google bought Motorola's mobile division, so it is owned by Google.

The Nexus line is historically the 'pure Android experience' and was intended as mainly a developer's toy. As such the device manufacture will always be shared amongst the member OEMs of the Open Handset Alliance. Motorola, as an OHA member, will get a crack at the next Nexus handset, but no preferential treatment. If their design doesn't stack up against the opposition it'll go to either HTC, LG, Samsung, Sony, ZTE, Huawei, Acer, Lenovo etc etc.

The firmware (OS) will always be vanilla Android but the hardware it runs on will be whichever Google decides will offer the best user experience.

I like what the hybrid aosp based rom devs are doing man. Theyre adding features that the users want while keeping the OS ultra light and fast :)
Cant wait to see what they do with kitkat... im bored with the CM close-to-stock 4.4 roms that are around justnow. really early days though n im a spoiled brat lol. Im on a Q2 2012 phone lol :D

Funky I am enjoying the new Avatar.

Anyhow though, I have been on an alpha build rom of 4.4 from SlimRoms for my GNex.

It is pretty alright. I really like Google Experience Launcher, a lot more than I originally though actually. Having Now built right into everything is kind of nice.

I also really like hangouts as my primary messaging application, it's what I was always expecting in a messenger from google, swiping to messages and what not, they should of made the messaging app a lot better a long time ago.

Thanks mate lol :D
Is that Slimkat? Lookin forward to that man. Slimbean was one of my fav 4.3 roms and they seem like a nice bunch of guys :)
Exciting times eh
Oh yeah... nah i didnt get into the hangouts/sms thing tbh.
Tbh most of my real life friends use facebook and sms. On g+ i have this different world of likeminded geeks lol and they use hangouts so i prefer to keep that separate :)

Haha yeah SlimKat!

It's pretty alright at the moment, just a few features, since it's still in alpha.

So it has some graphical issues, random reboots, typical stuff with pretty much every 4.4 Rom for Gnex right now.

Is it CM based though mate?
Im missing things from the 4.3 hybrid roms like DPI change, hidden statusbar etc :)

Pretty sure DPI change isn't in the 4.4 yet, which stinks. I went into buildprop and changed mine to 280 though.

I usually do 245.

Hidden statusbar also isn't in it yet :(

If you like those you should try Paranoid Android, I love that rom.

4.4 via Gummy's ROM has been solid on my G2. There's a couple things that are broken, though.
MMS is more or less not working (not a problem for me), video camera still isn't working. But, I'm able to sideload the LG camera app which is much better than AOSP. Still digging the GEL vs Nova which I swore on since my Gnex days.
AFAIK, ART is still not available for us, but with a SN800 and 2GB of RAM, it's running much smoother than stock. Quite happy I am. :)

Aw man theres plenty roms offering what i need but theyre all 4.3 and i love ART lol. Pure dilemma.
Lol my default DPI is 320 but i set it to 380!! I have bad eyes and it means i can use my phone with no glasses :) miss that. Miss Xposed..

Holy goodness!

380?!?!

That's really crazy big, how many icons can you fit on your page 4? ;):p

I'm just messin'

I am running an 'unofficial' CM 11 ROM on my phone, but it's currently the only one out for the i535 (while the GT-i9300 has tons of ROMs that run 4.4 just going by the G+ posts). the only thing wrong so far is that i still have the 'SD Card' bug, aka, if you got an SD card installed it causes random reboots if the media scanner runs. not sure why that is. i remember that happening to other phones and other ROMs and figured it had something to do with dalvik, but sadly it happens in ART too. removing the SD card prevents the random reboots.

the only thing listed as 'not working' so far on this ROM is the 'front facing camera'. never use the damn thing or Facetime anyway so i won't really notice.

It's amazingly fast though compared with buggy beta Carbon. i'm loving how easy it is to get things done and how fluid it is and keep thinking it's an iPhone until i notice the obvious difference. never thought it possible.
