Root [ROM][ICS] Paranoid Android Ver1.6 Beta from source (31JUL2013)

The calendar is nice, but not as different as the keyboard. There are some appearance updates, mostly noticeable with the widget, but otherwise works just like the previous versions as far as I can tell. Since it isn't meant to be on anything before 4.1, you have to get it from a third party site, bit you can find it easily by searching for 4.4 calendar.

What's up guys? After thinking for a while, I had the bright idea of merging PA in to CM9, since PA stopped supporting ICS. This is my first working build, but everything should be working ok. I redid our device config, getting rid of everything not quite starting from scratch but our boardconfig was bigger than any device I have looked at. I also used the GPS provided with CM9, it turns on and seems to work, I will test it on my way to work this morning. Basically I tried to build this with the least amount of editing/hacking. We had changed a lot of code and I want to see what we actually need. Most everything should work, except camera, but I wanted to put this out to see if it was a better option. It seems to be more stable, but only time will tell.

I haven't had a lot of time lately so there are a few things I have to work out still but basic functionality should be good. I may have missed a few PA lines of code so let me know if it is working.

Basically everything should work except the camera, but that is why I need it tested.

pa_triumph-1.6a-24NOV2013-190647.zip

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks again BSydz for all your work on the Triumph. I did a full wipe and factory reset and loaded the rom up. I generally find that only for ICS, the fonts tend to be too small for my e mail program (and a few others) so I load up your old folks zip with this rom for the bigger fonts... With that flashed as well the choice of font sizes that can be customized is almost ideal.... I also prefer Holo HD Launcher (it also can scale fonts and works well with the Old Folks add on). The stock trebuchet launcher is ok but the touch screen sensitivity lacked and had some lag. I find the Holo launchers generally are smoother with less lag and have just the right touch screen sensitivity for me.

I also play with and use memory boosters (some with custom task killers). I monitor memory usage with the widget "System tuner" and I know from using it when I have the Triumph as smooth and lag-freeze free as it gets.... This rom is almost there and I have it installed and used it for only a short time.

A few apps needed to be installed 2x from Titanium (restored app only) and when I updated to the latest Pandora app via the Playstore...it froze the whole phone for a while until just before I was going to pull the battery. Pandora was still frozen but I was able to long press back to kill it and then went and cleared all cache from it and it works perfectly now with the latest version.

As far as the phone goes.... the camera app it comes with force closes immediately (I know you said the camera/camcorder doesn't work) but the lgcamera / lgcamcorder app opens and gives a lighted but black screen with some features almost working.... Someone might try this app (Playstore) when attempting to get the camera and or camcorder working since it at least opens...

Keep up the great work on this phone or on any others in the future.... it's too bad from one updated os to another the code changes so much that it causes all kinds of problems for legacy devices and hardware. Getting 4.1.2 or higher on this phone probably won't happen based on comments I have read, but I really enjoy the Triumph as long as it's not the stock os....lol

I haven't made phone calls or tested GPS or bluetooth yet. WiFi connects very quickly and except for the known issues this rom seems stable and solid so far....The apps I have installed all seem to work and this rom is also pretty speedy.

Cheers!

Thanks again for your effort! I'm currently using the 31Jul2013 and its been super stable for me. No more crashes with Instagram! :) I really like the smaller size of font and icons as it makes my screen seem bigger. I noticed that the front camera works too! I have not tried video. Anyways, Kudos! Of all the ROMs I've tried, this has been the best! I'll have to give the new one a try.

Just do a Google search for 4.4 keyboard and you should be able to find a third party site hosting the. apk file. Download, install, enable through the input settings.

On an unrelated topic, my Triumph has been acting up a lot as a phone so I'm moving on to the moto X on republic wireless. So I'd welcome any advice on stripping down a ROM to give the phone to my dad as a music player.

Thanks :D I was actually thinking it had to be "slipstreamed" into the ROM's .zip and flashed. I'll give this a shot.

Since I forgot to ask... I am interested in this mainly for the "Swype"-style of input. I have used Swype for a couple years and am very comfortable with it, but it tends to bog down quite a bit no matter what ROM I'm running. How does the 4.4 keyboard compare? Is it smooth and fast, or does it also generally cause things to slow down?

I should think going into Recovery and clearing user data would suffice. That will remove all your apps & personal files/settings. From there it should be a quick matter to install WinAmp, Pandora, etc., for your dad.

I tried the 24NOV2013-190647 ROM and found a couple of issues:
- The camera does not work for me
- hard buttons do not light up

I used CWM 5.0.2.6 and wiped data/factory reset, wiped cache partition and wiped Dalvik cache.
I installed gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip after installing the ROM

I doubt that your recovery is the problem but I would recommend upgrading to B_Randon's CWM recovery: http://androidforums.com/triumph-al...-30-2012-cwm-recovery-6-0-1-9-b_randon14.html It seems to work a bit better than the 5.0.2.6 CWM.

As far as the softkeys not lighting up, check to make sure you have Automatic Brightness turned on in your Display Settings. I can't remember if this ROM had issues with that but I know there are some that the backlight won't work with Automatic Brightness turned off.

Thanks for testing it out, the camera doesn't work on that build, also tethering doesn't seem to work. I changed a bunch of stuff and brought in the latest CM changes. It is not meant to be a daily driver just want to see if it fixes a few stability issues. I will put out a new release in a week or so, I just finished a big side job so I should have about a month or so to work on everything I didn't have time for.

Camera is dead. Other than that, it works. Haven't tried anything else yet but I'm not a a hardcore user.

Beautiful ROM, I love it!

Only problem is that an issue of mine followed me from CM7 =( My wifi and 3G are broken and won't connect (wifi is stuck on "turning on...", 3G looks like its connected). Reboots, cache wipes, and permission fixes don't work, the only solution for me is to completely wipe and re-flash everything. Any ideas? It seems to randomly break, and uninstalling an app breaks it always. It was working fine in CM7, then I flashed to PA and it started off broken (which I know is not the ROMs fault).

I have to ask, which recovery are you using? Recoveries prior to 5027 had issues wiping cache, if I remember correctly. I use 5027 on my good phone cause it always worked properly for me.

The wifi issue sounds like when I changed the wpa_supplicant.conf which is in /data/misc.

You should always factory reset between ROMs and use tools like Titanium Backup to restore app data and message and call log info. If it started off broken then there had to be some data lingering somewhere. Which leads me to the recovery.

If 3G is broken, then you will have to return to stock and call Virgin and have them reset your data. I had this happen before. I was restoring a stock nandroid when I called and had to say "hold on I have to start the phone up, my battery fell out cause I was putting music on my SD card" ... "hold on it's booting up now" ... lol. Any way, if 3G works on fresh install then it may be an app that you are using that is causing all of this.

Well, that's my 2 cents, hope it helps.

I appreciate the input! It looks like removing the directory /data/misc/wifi/ and rebooting made it work when all else failed. Not sure if it's a permenant or always working solution, but it worked for the time being. Just made a tasker task to do this so I can do it when need be. It also fixed my 3G.

Probably is an app conflicting with this, I just can't seem to pinpoint which one because I don't really have any apps running besides my keyboard. I'll try and use Titanium and set some backups of stuff, I always just recovered my data after the wipe and reflash and it would work fine.

Thanks!

WIFI on my clean install worked like a charm with no issues.... It connected as quickly as anything and is quite stable so I doubt it's the rom or the CWM recovery.

I'm also using CWM v5.0.2.6 and have never had any issues installing a rom or any glitches not repeated or seen by others in the forum.

The only app tried that went rogue on the Nov 24th 2013 PA is facebook.

If the camera and video get patched I would use this rom as my daily. I haven't tried tethering but I always keep a couple of Titanium backups with everything working on my external micro sd if ever needed.

I'd recommend just making a shortcut icon on your homescreen to facebook.com instead of using the actual facebook app. Mine always used to run in the background and drain my battery on CM7.

And I also am using CM9 until they get the camera perfect. What are you using?

FYI: I use CM recovery 5206 and it always seems to wipe cache and factory wipe/ dalvik wipe fine with all the Triumph builds I have tried since it came out... It works fine when trying PA July or November 2013 (for me) and I've restored the froyo Sharp rom and my daily 2.3.7 CM-7 from March 3, 2013... preferring holo launcher to stock except with the sharp Rom where I like the Sharp launcher. I get almost no lag ever and I believe in using a memory booster of which there are many good ones. That's my 2 cents too...

Couple of questions...

1. Is there any way to tell which Gapps I installed (symlinked vs. non-symlinked)?

2. When formatting an SD card, what's a good guideline for size of sd-ext and swap areas? Also, in the past I've always formatted using CWM. It's never caused any problems but is there any arguments against doing it this way?

I'm thinking about doing a major cleanup of my SD card (old pics, mp3s, data from old apps, etc.) then doing a reformat plus a completely clean reinstall of my ROM. My SD is a 32GB (Class 10, I believe) and I set it up with a 4GB sd-ext and the largest swap it would allow. Any reason I should not do the same this time around?

Thanks in advance for any advice you guys can give me. Happy Holidays/Christmas/Chanukah/Kwanzaa/etc. :)

Any way we can get a different clock/alarm clock app? I really can't stand scrolling the numbers to set an alarm. Most of the time it overshoots or undershoots the numbers I want. I tried other alarm apps and they are doing the same thing. Is it something with the rom itself? I really liked the old clock app from froyo.

You might be able to pull the app from the GB Rom. Also, if you touch the number it will allow you to type in the time.
