I'm really torn between the two. I know Chromecast is cheaper, but Roku 3 has the ability to play local content via USB and also has AllCast support.
Does Chromecast have the ability to easily and seamlessly play local content without the need for root? (I'm under the impression that the latest stock Chromecasts are no longer rootable.)
Root only gets you the opportunity to run Koush's app.
He's already sorting out the various changes to the SDK - that now distinguishes between your content and not and has methods to deal with secure and unsecure content.
The thing about the Roku 3 - it's fabulous, but does not do YouTube (without jumping through root-like hoops) - but does have an HDMI port to plug in other solutions.
Guess what I'm planning on plugging into the Roku 3 when I get one?

Looking over the vendor deals, I doubt that VuDu will come to Chromecast - never say never, but I doubt it.
And VuDu Ultraviolet is cool.
There will be some duplication going on with a Roku 3 and Chromecast together.
Ever surf Netflix with either?
I have with both and the Chromecast is just far and away easier - and when it comes to TV, easy wins.
I have an HTPC (works great btw) from the days when I bought into the theory that if you have one powerhouse device, you're all set.
I ain't buying that again, so I'll recommend the combo here.
