The Official Accessory Thread

So I'm trying to decide on a case for the Nexus 5, and based on what I've read on here and other places, a matte black TPU case offers the best level of drop protection while retaining as much of the original look and feel of the phone. After doing some research, I've narrowed down my choices to the following four cases:

Diztronic Matte Black: Amazon.com: Diztronic Matte Back Black Flexible TPU Case for LG Nexus 5 - Retail Packaging: Cell Phones & Accessories

I've come to the conclusion this is the best in term of aesthetics and feel, but I haven't seen a single review attesting to its ability to protect the phone. I'll definitely get this one if the protection is acceptable, as I love the feel of the Nexus 5.

CruzerLite BugDroid: http://www.amazon.com/Cruzerlite-Bugdroid-Circuit-Case-Nexus/dp/B00FH50DXM

CruzerLite Androidified: Amazon.com: Cruzerlite Androidified A2 Case for LG Nexus 5 - Retail Packaging - Black: Cell Phones & Accessories

I've seen these drop test video for these (I think the latter specifically), so it seems pretty obvious that they provide adequate protection for drops onto hard surfaces. However, the elaborate Android designs on the back are less appealing than the minimal graphics and pure matte black of the Diztronic, and I've read that the lips intrude slightly onto screen real estate.

Boxwave Blackout: Amazon.com: BoxWave Blackout Google Nexus 5 Case - Durable, Slim-Fit Black TPU Case with Stylish Dual Glossy and Matte Finish - Google Nexus 5 Cases and Covers: Cell Phones & Accessories

I saw this recommended on a couple lists, but I haven't found many reviews of it otherwise, so I'm not sure how it compares with the aforementioned models.

Is anyone who has any of these cases able to provide more information about them, or can someone point me to a good resource for comparing them more thoroughly?

Go with the Diztronic...

Are you confident in its ability to protect from moderate drops?

I've used Diztronic cases for a while now and never had an issue what so ever. Now are you getting otter box protection here, no! But you are getting a lay on the table design and should be fine if your looking for medium protection. But if your looking for throw your phone across the room protection, lol...well then I would look into something that would be a little bulkier.

Diztronic is very very form fitting also, so if slim is what you want look no further. And for like $10 your getting a decent case.

I'm using the official nexus bumper right now until my black diztronic case comes and I'll tell you this...the bumper may be $35 and make your phone a bulkier, but there is quite a bit of protection here, I'd have to say if you want maximum protection and your going to be rockin a screen protector also, the bumper may offer more protection depending on what you do for a living and all that. With my use and my daily lifestyle, the Diztronic TPU case works just fine.

Just got http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FUPVHPM/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 i-Blason Armorbox for Google Nexus 5 by LG Dual Layer Hybrid Full-body Protective Case with Front Cover and Built-in Screen Protector and Impact Resistant Bumpers

My review: Case easy to install. Kinda cheap build but you get what you pay for. Shipped over a week from order date, they really need to work on this. DOES WORK with my wireless charger, despite what another reviewer stated. Maybe it depends on the charger. The screen protector does have a bit of glare, but def better than regular screen protectors. My recommendation for those losing corner protectors... put a spot of superglue in there :)

I know you already purchased it, but I'll just give a +1 to this case. I used it for the Nexus 4 and it experienced a handful of scary drops without sustaining noticeable damage. The N5 has only fallen from a few feet onto either wood or vinyl floors, but I'm sure it will hold up as well as it did for the N4.

It's also a great fit, comfortable in the hands, looks good, and cheap. There's not much else to ask for

Thanks for the input, even if it didn't factor into my purchasing decision, as its nice to have reassurance that the case drop protection outperforms what you'd assume from looking at it. My preliminary experience with the case suggests that its just as good as everyone says it is; a perfect aesthetic and physical fit, one that feels like a natural extension of the phone. I'm not planning on abusing the Nexus 5, and if I can get moderate protection while enjoying such a classy design, I'll be pretty happy with the purchase.

I purchased this case from Amazon. For me at least it is awesome. I use this instead of the Spigen case that I loved. Both are awesome.

Caseology Google Nexus 5 [Carbon Fiber Hybrid] - Premium Twill Weave Fabric Shock Absorbent TPU Bumper Case with Sim Card Accessibility (Black) [Made in Korea] (for AT&T Sprint, T-mobile, Unlocked)

The Caseology case is only $7.99

Worth a try.............like I said for me it is awesome.

I heartily second this. My LG Esteem survived tons of drops because the Trident case it was in had almost a 3/16ths inch lip. The last thing I want is it landing on a pebble and breaking the screen.

Cheers to a fellow LG Esteem owner! I kept my Esteem naked and dropped it many times on asphalt, concrete, in the rain (and left it for 10 minutes in the rain without knowing). That phone can take a POUNDING and then some! Still has no cracks in the glass and more or less works just as well.

As far as the N5, I just purchased the spigen ultra hybrid. Hope it works out

I hear you on this, I ordered the bright yellow case with mine, more for differentiating my device from the pile on the table whenever I'm dinner with friends. I have to say I like the case, it feels like it will keep the phone safe from bumps/small drops etc but it IS bulkier than I was expecting. It's also pretty stiff around the buttons so waking the phone up is more difficult than I'd like it to be. Still, I'll probably keep using it as I'm too lazy to shop around a bunch of cases.

Now after a few weeks with the OEM wireless charger I'm very impressed. I have a Spigen Slim Armor case on it and it charges from 20% in just less than an hour.

Running the Qualcomm BatteryGuru app is the best decision I've made, run times are nearly unbelievable. It's made heavy usage a pleasure, no worries about having enough battery for my typical 14+ hour work day.

This Nexus 5 is such a joy to use. There's lots of little features that I continue to find in Android 4.4.2 just when I least expect it. KitKat is a big leap that's serving me very well. :D

I've got a Ballistic SG case coming. It's saved my S3 from many multiple stairwell fall downs, and I trust it enough for this phone.

The ballistic cases have got the science down right. Thicker rubber jelly in the corners to soak up abuse, then a slightly more rigid backing with a flex point in the center to equally disperse the shock instead of just over-packing the device in layers on layers on layers of rubber and plastic.
The ballistic cases are about as thick as the otterbox commuter ones, and do a lot more.

I am a heavy user and I travel a lot so I picked up the I-Blason battery case. I can see that this thing is going to come in handy. It gives you more than double your battery life, another 2,500 mah. It does make the phone much bigger so if that bothers you then you may not want this however I honestly felt like this phone naked was dainty, almost too thin so I don't mind. It protects the phone all around well with the exception of the screen. One cool little feature on it is that it makes the speaker face front which is a much better position than the original so you don't accidentally block the speaker with this case on. For the price I think it's a great deal.
