Using Tasker to Detect if A DIFFERENT Device is on Wifi

Hello,

I would like to automate my phone so that it will turn off the ringer (or some other functions) when my wife is home. The way I have thought to approach this is if I can detect whether her phone is on the Wifi network...

Is there a way in Tasker that I can have it search the WiFi network and determine if my wife's phone is present? Then if so, I would have it execute a set of items...

Anyone know if this is possible or have a different/better idea for my goal?

Thanks!

I don't think so, but if you put Tasker on your wife's phone you could have it send you an AutoRemote message or a text or something when she connects to your WiFi.

That would probably be the best/easiest route to go.

Another (far more complicated option) would be to add a DHCP reservation on your Wifi router so that your wife's phone would always have the same IP. You could then set up a Task to periodically ping that IP address using some scripting and/or variable handling hackery. If it gets a response, assume wife is home. If not, she's not.
