Help HTC one build quality

Long story short.

I am on Sprint. I have a launch day silver/white htc one.

Use the front speakers at least 2-3 days a week watching YouTube and the occasional blinkfeed video.

no speaker issues at all.

my point?

massed produced products can have issues with build quality as it seems you are experiencing.

so, either return this 3rd one and go to another att store that may have a different batch of units, or simply return the phone as it has failed your expectations.

Perhaps writing a letter to htc and expressing your experience with their products may help them in the future with their product assembly lines.

coming on a website that is not official to htc and asking users "what is going on" will not merit much fruit i am afraid... ;)

if you are that upset and let down (not me as the phone has exceeded my expectations), speak loudly with your money. Walk away and pick up another phone with another manufacturer.

I have had the Evo 4g, Evo 3d, 2 Evo 4g LTE.

I was one of the customers who had to wait on my pre ordered HTC Evo 4g LTE because of Apple. I know how this stuff works. I have already sent HTC a message but they will not fix my phone tomorrow. I like this phone and HTC too much to give up on it. I was simply hoping for a simple solution.

ive been an htc user since 2001. Loyal to a fault.

i too have had all flavors of the evo series; each phone a lunch day device. one or two i received free by being a beta tester (the good old days).

prior to that i had their pocket pc phones (i still kinda miss that big juicy physical keyboard).

ive not had any physical issues with any phone from them...AT ALL. this is MY experience and as always YMMV.. :D

i understand your frustrations, and I would be disappointed if I had 3 phones whose build quality was not up to snuff, however, and with all due respect, coming here to complain is only at best an avenue to vent. going direct to the source and complaining is the only way to get your voice heard.

strength is in numbers, so if more people have these issues and send in tickets to htc and/or return their devices if they are not up to snuff, this could only help htc and eventually their customers down the road. :)

I appreciate your honesty and sharing your experience with the class. ;)

Idk why people are crying about build my htc one is kinda like this but the speaker hasn't come off. Although the beats audio logo is starting to come off and makes my phone look like a knock off

I've had my One for three months now and the only problem I've had is the beats logo started to come off a few weeks ago. I managed to remove it all by very gently scratching it with a finger nail. Took about 20 minutes but it now looks better without it, so I'm still well happy with my One - best phone ever for me.

I have some gaps but they seem uniform so it doesn't bother me too much. The small gap between the screen and bottom speaker is having some very small muck get into it and I have tried everything I can like cleaning it out with my nails, blowing it out, and even cleaning it out with the smallest pin I could find but it seems to only have pressed it further in. Anyone have a fix to it?

I have a HTC one for just over 7 months.
ive recently noticed that in the middle of the screen there is a noticeable area where the coating on the screen has worn away. around the edges the coating is still visible.

Ive tried cleaning it ( only ever with microfiber cloth) but this doesn't help. ive had a desire before this and an iphone but never had this happen.

just wondering:

- is this a known issue?
- is there any remedy besides replacing the screen? Ive read somewhere that car polish might help, but im reluctant to try that on a screen.

thanks for any help you can provide.

Just an update on my phone situation.

Got a refurbished replacement via insurance. Replacement has the camera noise issue. Using the HTC double dip case with cloth tape over the inside of the speaker grilles to keep metal dust out.

Speakers just blown again tonight from default alarm sound on less than max volume. This was post-update that lowers max volume also. Not happy.

I disable beats due to it sounding terrible over bluetooth to my car's head unit. Maybe that's why this keeps happening?

Ah well, haven't dropped this one so warranty applies.

EDIT: Scratch that, apparently the cloth tape caught enough dust to block the speakers enough to make them rattle. Removed it, everything sounds clear again. Figures I'd try that after flashing the old RUU so I could use Revone again to remove all signs of tampering. >.>

Yay I'm an idiot.

I've been looking all over the internet for someone with the same problem, but it seems like only I have been getting scuff marks on my black HTC One. I say scuff marks because I don't think they're scratches, but I can't wipe them off. Does anyone know if it's possible to get rid of them?

Has anyone else had this issue with their One?

I can't believe I've only had my One for less than 2 months, and I see that my camera lens cover has 4 cracks splaying in different directions from a central point - meaning that photos come out fuzzy at the edges. No idea how it happened. Reading around, I don't seem to be the only one with this problem.

I don't really want the hassle and cost of sending it back to HTC for repair, so wonder if anyone has attempted replacing the camera lens cover themselves? So far I've found a few solutions (for example this one), so I've just ordered myself one of these to give it a go.

Just wondered if anyone has tried similar before, and can give some hints or tips before I try it myself!

Thanks,
Rhyan

I am sure you are not the only one who has a damaged camera lens. just a search of this entire website you will find such stories.

replacing the back cover should not be an issue as long as the cover is verified to be an original fit and finish OEM htc part, especially if the lens cover is attached to the back of the phone, the replacement process should be easy.

i think sprint (maybe other carriers) can do this type of repair in store, so you should be good to go.

Rhyan, not attempted this myself, but here's a guide to replacing the lens cover:

HTC One Camera Lens Glass Replacement - iFixit

The instructions are for three different lens cover options.

Thanks. I had seen that one too. I received my replacement back cover (with lens bits) last week, but haven't had a chance to try swapping the lens cover over yet. I hope to do it this week, time permitting. I'll report back when it's done!

Just to follow up on this, I replaced the lens cover myself in the end, once I'd found a decent pair of tweezers to remove the old lens (and enough time when the kids weren't around and I didn't have a load of other stuff to do).

Probably took me less than 10 minutes. To separate the new lens cover from the new back, I had to destroy the little (white) plastic tray to which it's glued. Other than that, it was pretty easy. All in all, the repair cost me less than

Has anyone had issues with the microphone not working? I cannot make/or receive any calls as the other caller will just be.. hello.....? hello....? I even tried voice recorder apps and google now(voice recognition) with no luck. I have contacted HTC as I have only had my phone for almost 8 months now. but they are being very very slow on responses to my emails.

Anyone else have any luck with anything I have dealt with?

all you can do is factory reset o see if there is an app causing your issue.
if after the reset, you still have the issues, send it into htc if its under the year warranty, or exercise your insurance through your carrier to get a refurbished model.

if you are feeling frisky and want to try to replace the mic, there are youtube videos that show the tear-down process.

not much else you can do and this issue is not common on this forum.

edit: do you have access to bluetooth phones or wired phones with a mic to test? what about a handsfree car system?

Follow these steps:

AndroidForums.com | HTC One (M8) - Recipient can't hear me whilst using speaker-phone!

These steps should be very similar on the One (M7). Except I think that an older version of the diagnostics tests may have had a separate Mic test?
