Hi

My Samsung Note 3 just updated itself to android 4.4 which surpised me because I didn't think it was out in the UK yet. Anyway I installed the update checked it was updated and the top tray has changed all the icons are white but that's about it, I don't have any new apps, no "New phone app".

Is it something I am doing wrong?

Thanks

Hi

No "New phone app".

Is it something I am doing wrong?

Thanks

Did you mean the phone Dialler? If so where did you read that there would be updates to it?

Some of the changes are detailed below:

" Some of the key features ported into Android 4.4.2 N9005XXUENA6 official firmware are as follows:

Stock Android KitKat features mirroring Google Edition ROMs
Option to select default messaging app and default launcher from the settings menu
More integrated location menu with tighter control over location services
More emojis added to keyboard
Wireless printing support integrated into the operating system (OS) with the option to choose between native and HP printing service "

Also note:

"In related news, a senior member at XDA developers, Skander1998, has done a quick review of the features*available on Android 4.4.2 KitKat which is listed below:

Everything seems to run faster: unlocking, settings, apps and without any stutter or lag anywhere.
New lockscreen options, and music player on lockscreen etc.
Status bar white and defaults to pure black instead of dark grey when not transparent.
More RAM availability: up to 2.7GB RAM
Camera seems less prone to low light problems and blurring effects
Pen Window supports more apps, while being much faster
No ART (as it is still in experimental stage)
Excellent battery life
Interestingly not heating as much while offering better performance
Security Policy and security framework/settings redone - now allows manual updating besides having its own menu."

Hi Evohicks 'n' all,

I'm with 3 network in the UK.
I put Kitkat on via Odin and it took me under 10 minutes(official version from Poland).

It definitely runs smoother/quicker. I also recieved a small OTA update (28mb) a few days later.
I was unsure what this update was for but Looking at some forum comments it appears the update may have been released by Samsung to cancel the block of third party apps that was included in the initial release of kitkat.

For example if you had an S-view case then kitkat/Samsung would not recognise any fake or Third party products and thats what happened when I installed Kitkat.
The android community were not happy with this block so Samsung released an small OTA update to rectify this issue and now my S -view case works.

Another reason maybe for 4G/LTE because the day I got the update my phone displayed the LTE icon in the status bar?

I'm not sure but the above could be a few possibilities.
