A New Alternative with Nexus 5 pricing emerges.

I don't see the nexus line going anywhere. Honestly it seems like there's about as much real evidence as the prerelease rumor of the motox touch sensitive wood ;)

I mentioned in the other one plus thread I won't buy a companies first device. I know google/HTC/Samsung/ect's track record, one plus is unknown at this point. I'd rather see how others fare.

I second this. The One Plus seems to have the build, software, hardware, etc to be a success but I will wait until the One Plus Two or Three to test one out. I am rooting for them though; If they pull off a flagship phone with that kind of power and price, coupled with Nexus pricing, the rest of the industry will really feel the pressure to lower prices without lowering quality. Also a huge fan of CyanogenMod.

I agree on buying a first time device...Who knows what build quality issues will exist, etc.

But jeeez that camera looks really awesome, and the ability to toggle back and fourth between off and on screen buttons is just really cool as well.

Honestly as a whole I like what I'm seeing, but I am not willing to be a tester at the moment, I'm pretty content with what I have right now.

I agree. They're doing some innovative things, and I can always get behind that :)

Agreed! These days were kind of in a stale moment within the mobel tech market, especially this year. I mean I'm rockin a phone with a 4MP camera...lol. And Samsung is just blah IMHO. Things are just at a point where we have achieved a lot with screen technology, processors, etc.

So when we see a never really heard of company comes out with a $350 phone that pretty much has mind blowing specs just like the big guys who are charging upwards of $700 for a phone, its encouraging to know we are still in for a few surprises.

Mobile OS's have kind of plateaued, and a lot of hardware has too. Battery technology is the one piece lagging behind the rest imo.

I'm really liking what I'm seeing from oppo with that whole quick charging capability the Find 7A has.

I'm so tired of my phone dying and waiting 2 and a half hours for it to charge. I do have to say I'm seeing some really ridiculous battery life with my M8.

Yeah, the phone is going to be a beast no doubt but the N5 is about as big a phone as I'm prepared to go. Shame as if it was the same size I'd seriously contemplate it after hearing some thoughts/seeing if the build quality is up to par.

The bigness of that phone will fade real quick because of the shape and power button placement. After using a nexus 5 since release and my other line being an iPhone 5S, the M8 felt BIG to me for about a day or so. The slight curved back makes it feel extremely comfortable in the hand.

I have some pretty BIG paws, but never really took a complete liking to the Galaxy Note because of the width of the phone.

But these new devices with 5 inch plus screens and really cleverly rounded backs are not going to feel nearly as large as a note or mega.

you seen what the S5 cost to make compared to its retail price??? $258 to make vs $699 retail. Thats $441 profit, aka over 100% mark up. ;)

This looks like a nice phone, I might have been tempted if I had to choose between it and a Nexus. It will be interesting to see how the reviewers like this phone. I will say, it does seem a bit larger than I would like; while I like larger screens for my old eyes, I seem to prefer screens under 5 inches.

I'll be getting this if Google doesn't make a new Nexus come November

If the rumors are true, I believe we'll see one more nexus device come fall 2014. With all the money Google dumps into projects like Glass is amazing they can't keep the nexus line going.

However I think companies like 1+ and Oppo are going to make a ton of noise in the second half of 2014.

I'm gonna try getting my hands on one in the next few weeks to give it a whirl

I'm going to try and get one early to sell it. I reckon they will be pretty hard to get hold of and will sell pretty well if you can get in early. Can't justify upgrading my N5 just yet, 1 new phone a year is enough.

and also to muddy the water for us nexus users 1+1 said that even though their phone comes with cyanogen mod 11S they will allow the users to install anything they want, stock android 4.4.3 anyone :D or DU with franco :thrasher:

Sensible. A phone with CM pre-installed is going to get the notice of the enthusiasts. Locking it down would be a quick way of losing them, and if you are trying to get established that wouldn't be smart.

If they were to end the nexus line, I doubt cash has anything to do with it.

The "nexus is dead" rumor has been here and gone before. From everything I can find, this iteration of "nexus is dead by 2015" rumor is coming from this tweet. He's a russian tech blogger, with no obvious tie to Google.

The same guy whose been wrong a few times already before:
Microsoft strikes deal to acquire Nokia’s phone business for $19B, insider claims | BGR
Microsoft Windows Phone Payouts Report Denied | BGR

I think we can honestly move on from that rumor until there is corroborating evidence.
