Root [ROM][ICS] Paranoid Android Ver1.6 Beta from source (31JUL2013)

How can I set network mode to EVDO only in this rom? Sometimes the phone keeps switching between base stations which is quite annoying...

I'm not quite sure what you're trying to accomplish here. Are you trying to get the phone to stay in 1X rather than 3G where available? I'm not sure why you would want to do that, considering that 3G data speeds are significantly higher than 1X.

Also, what do you mean by "the phone keeps switching between base stations"? If you are referring to switching from one cell tower to another, this is nothing you can control nor do I quite see WHY you would want to. Cell phones automatically switch to the optimal cell tower based on signal strength and to the best of my knowledge there is no way to force a phone to favor one specific tower.

Months later and this ROM is still my daily! Gotta love it's speed, especially with the lightning launcher. Hoping and praying that you guys might make a release with the video camera (if not, still an amazing phone re****l!)

Also I was just wondering, does anyone have issues with redirects when you don't have an internet connection? I'm temporarily living in dorms and I have to use one of those hotel-like login pages. I can connect to the wifi, but it won't redirect me to the login page (I usually just try going to google.com), so I can't get internet connection. Is this an Android problem, or the ROM? I've tried multiple browsers, clearing phone and browser cache, deleting the /wifi/ folder, etc.

Is a notification coming to your status bar? If so, the best method is to click the icon in the notification area. I've been doing this at a lot of places this year and redirect is successful in different environs, though I've sometimes been forced to restart Wi-Fi and give it a minute. How are other users faring on their phones around you? This could be the dorm's bug.

In other roms, there's a network type selection to choose auto/EVDO only/1x only. Based on my experience (I rarely make phone calls), mobile data works much better in EVDO only mode (if an area is 1x only, the Internet barely works anyway I can just consider it as no coverage). The problem I have is that sometimes the phone keep switching between towers (new SID, BSID), like 10 times in 5 minutes which renders the phone unusable. It seems like the phone gets kicked off of a tower with good signal strength due to high load at that tower, then try to connect to a tower with sub-optimal signal, after a few seconds it tries to connect to the tower with the best signal again. With "EVDO only" setting this rarely happens. But that option is missing in this rom.

I don't have a notification in my status bar (actually never seen that). Other people have no problem getting on with their phones/tablets. I can log on fine with my laptop.

I noticed that on my laptop if I try and go to my router page, it will redirect me to the ISP's page, but if I try and go to my router page on my phone it will actually go to the router page and let me change settings. Weird

In some cases, after connecting to Wi-Fi in settings, an icon pops in the left side of the status bar. It looks like a full Wi-Fi signal with a question mark in the center. It's the same as the "Wi-Fi networks available" icon. If that came up, you would pull down the status bar and a notification for the sign in page would be present. Clicking that notification would send you to the sign in page. In other cases, the Wi-Fi list in settings would allow you to connect successfully, then opening the native browser would open the sign in page. In your case, I would imagine that opening the browser leads to a no connection message. Or is a Google homepage opening? I've had this issue at the library, and I needed to turn on auto sync for it to work. Is yours on? I'm just running down the list of things I would do here. I'd also try it with 3g on and with it off. I hope you find success. :)

Glad I could help. :)

Gah! I spoke too soon. Just tried to sign on again and I'm back at square one. Can't get the Wifi "?" to pop up anymore, no matter how I set it. I think it has to do with the fact that the ISP only keeps your session active for 1 hour of inactivity before cutting you off and making you sign in again (even if you're already signed in). Any ideas on this?

Try going back to the Wi-Fi list screen after turning Wi-Fi and 3g off, then Wi-Fi back on. Find the network and click it, wait for connection on that screen. Give a minute for the icon to show. You may have tried this. Oh, and turn on auto sync. I'm going for coffee. Lemme know how this works. I wanna be sure that the dorm Wi-Fi is the one the phone is staying with. I don't think it's the ROM. By the way, how strong is your average signal in your room? I'll Be back later. Good luck!

Out of curiosity, are you (or anyone else) currently trying to develop video capability? I just want to know because that's the one thing missing from the ROM, which isn't a big deal at all but those very odd times that I do want to take a video I always forget and sadface =P

I know I can't speak for others, especially any of the devs, but I'm fairly certain development for the MT has come to an end :( These forums have been pretty quiet in recent months. I'm still going strong with my MT (hey, if it ain't broke then don't fix it!) and I'm sure there are others but we seem to be a dying minority. I stuck with my Triumph because my area was behind in getting 4G coverage and now that we finally do have it I just can't afford the expense of a new phone right now.

Paranoid is a great ROM but if you want video recording capability I wouldn't hold my breath. CM7 is another fantastic ROM and even though it's fairly dated at this point, pretty much everything including video works - and works darned well.

Yeah, I would have to agree with all of that. I keep trying to get back into it all, but have a hard time just handling life. I've been bouncing around with used phones. It takes the sting out of the purchase price and I even tried making some money at it (didn't make enough to make it worth it).

As far as Deving on the MT, I haven't had one in over a year. I miss the community, though after having the Epic, I don't miss the phone so much. It was nice and served it's purpose, but it was cheaped-out. I'm glad I had it and got to have fun with it. It was really the people that made it great.
