Help Phone goes thru my 5MB Data in less than 30 days ?

WIFI is turned off, I don't use the internet that much, I am Technology Challanged so I don't know what I am doing wrong or if a setting is gone ape shit or what ? Seems like I burn thru the 5 mb that T Mobile gives me on the basic plan in less than 30 days every month. Any suiggestions.

7 yr old niece is trying to talk me out of this new S5 and telling me I need to go back to the flip phone I had from the late 90's cause she knows this new phone like it's second nature and she knows I'll never use it to it's fullest potential. I told her if she doesn't loose the flip phone or damage it in the next 6-8 months I'ed buy her a new S5 of her own and she could quit hounding me like an old nag. She's right though..

MY BAD GENTLEMEN.......

MY PLAN IS: $ 50.00 UL TALK, TEXT, DATA (1GB 4G LTE)

The balance info on my phone says; 1934.9 MB / UNLIMITED DATA LIMIT REACHED.... I CONTINUE TO HAVE UNLIMITED DATA AT 2G SPEEDS.

WELL I DONT KNOW BUT I'll USE WIFI WHENEVER I GET THE OPPORTUNITY TOO.

I BURN THRU 1 GB BEFORE MY 30 DAYS OF SERVICE IS UP EVERY MONTH.

I ASKED THE BITCH AT T MOBILE IF MY SETTINGS WERE CORRECT WHEN I WAS IN EL PASO.. ALL SHE DID WAS CHANGE OUT MY SIM CARD FOR FREE, GUESS I CANT COMPLAIN TOO MUCH. I;LL TAKE IT TO THE CORPORATE STORE IN LAKE WORTH AND HAVE THEM $ 10.00 hr. ROCKET SCIENTISTS LOOK AT IT. MAYBE THEY CAN FINGER IT OUT.

THANK YOU GENTLEMEN FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP, GREATLY APPRECIATED!

You need to turn your mobile data off and turn your wifi on. You can also control applications to use wifi only. Our router from Rogers was losing it's signal every 15 minutes, our phones would switch to data and then check email. It was doing this so much that we went though 2 gb in 2 weeks. Turned the data off on the phone and our excessive data usage disappeared.

you did the opposite of what you needed to do. Turning off your wifi ensured that only the cellular network was the only thing app could use to connect thereby using all your data. keep wifi on and turn 3g/4g or mobile data off unless you absolutely need to use it. use the wifi at home to connect to other internet service or at work/ coffee shop etc.

IDK about t-mobile, but Verizon s5 tries to hide the mobile data switch under the drop down menu. its not set as one being shown by default but you can change that. instead of using one finger to pull the menu down use two finger and use see all the switches, as well as the option to edit whats it shown. i guess they don't want you to easily see how to turn off mobile data so they can charge you more.

That is precisely why I use the Switcher Widget on Battery Doctor to control all of my phone's outside world connections.

See the photo.

I've only used 157 GB this month. :)

yeah, I used to be that way, but then because of $$$$ per phone charges, I had to relinquish my Grandfathered Unlimited Data plan that I bought many years ago.

Had my phone been the only one on my wallet, I would have stayed with the Unlimited data plan...... but, I pay for everyone in my family and we had to go the Shared Plan route to reduce the outlay per month.

For us, though, it was an easy decision, we had never used more than 2 gB/month in our life.... Everywhere we go, there is WiFi and our phones switch over automatically to the WiFi signal.

If you go into Settings\Data usage\ the press the menu button, tick the Restrict Background data box and Apps won't be able to access your data plan in the background, only when you open an app. You need to turn it back on when using WiFi as many apps won't work properly.

I am trying to work out how to do this automatically in Tasker so when I turn my mobile data on it turns the background data off, and then turns it back on when I go back to WiFi.

Hope that is of some helpl.
