Transfer Emails to PC

Have you tried signing in to your account via your desktop? to confirm whether you can't see the e-mail...

I only have one gmail account. The account name and password are the same on the PC and the phone. I even tried the sync function on gmail and that doesn't seem to have worked.
I thought that gmail kept the messages on their server so I would be able to see all the messages on either device. But this is behaving like the phone is downloading the messages, they never appear on the PC. At this point I'm going to just kill the password and ID on the phone settings so at least it should stop accessing the account and making things worse. But there are over 100 messages on there that I can't get to except on the phone.
