Root [MetroPCS] Simple WiFi Tether - CM11 Tested - No User Agent - Metro US

I know I was frustrated with not being able to get a working tether method on the F6, and I've seen tons of others post about it too.

I found a simple method that doesn't require any user agents, or the use of metros tether app. This will work even if you didn't pay for the metro tether plan (which they try to force you to do).

The rom I tested this on was CM11. I believe this will work on CM11 or the KitKat rom, not sure about other roms as it might need settings tweeked.

Things you'll need:
-Root
-Wifi Tether Router (this is the app I used. It's paid app from the play store. However looking at the settings this should work with other tether apps.)
-Build.prop editor (I used Rom Toolbox Pro for this).

Steps:
-Use Rom Toolbox (or preferred app) to change the build.prop settings so that ro.region.locale is changed from US to EU
-Run the app WiFi Tether Router
-Leave the settings as is. If you have a different version just make sure to match the settings to the ones I show in the video.
-Run tether.

And done.

**Edit**
I'm running Ubuntu Linux on my laptop and it has no problems. However using wine, and from what other uses said this doesn't work on windows+chrome.

This method works fine.

The reboot is from cm not my method.

Open the app and enable/disable tether until it refreshes to show KB up/down.

If there is a redirect no idea why. Show me a video of what your doing.

I'll try to help but I've tested this a lot. Works fine.

Plus you said it worked at first.meaning its something other than my method

Sorry Xieon, you are right. I reformatted, started over completely, and for a full day now have flawless wifi tether. This method totally works!! Thank you so much for posting this! Now if only I could get CM11 to work with the home button LED, lol

Its all good. I know it works I've been using it a ton.

I haven't tried with an Xbox or super large files but the tethering with unthrottled 4g lte seem pretty consistently fast .

BTW can you find the cm11 thread it disappeared.

I tried with CM11, Kitkat and stock rom. I think this method may be outdated and MetroPCS has a different way of finding out if you're tethering.

This method didn't for me in either roms.

Can you show me what your doing?

I'm using cm11 beta3 from hraork and I tether huge amounts to my laptop.

I will point out that when using wine on Ubuntu it brings up a metro buy tether webpage but only then.

Also from a technical POV if I get tethering to work and get around metro they have to either push an update or throttle/turn off my data. Neither has happened so even if metro suspects it...they can't do anything.

I tried again yesterday. I need to be more specific with my issue, its not that this method didn't work. I simply can't get Wifi Tether Router to work correctly.

I only changed the SSID and Password, left everything else alone as suggested. The app runs without issues, but my laptop never find the router. I tried connecting to the strongest "hidden" signal as well--nothing. So I'm not able to truly test out this method.

Does anyone have advices or links to where I can solve this problem?

Are you rooted?

Does all the options in tether router match the settings I showed in my video?

It seems like the problem is your running the lg ROM. You'll probably need an aosp ROM such as cm11.

Yes, rooted with Towelroot and running TWRP Recovery. I tried Angablade V6. Finally got the Wifi Tether Router to work but received this message "The 4G Mobile Hotspot feature is required" when browsing in Chrome. I'm located in Sacramento, CA. if that makes a difference.

Is there a link to the process of changing the "User Agent"?

Okay, I thoroughly feel like an idiot now. If anybody out there had the same problem as me. This method is currently working for me.

My process: I'm still running stock ROM and MetroPCS 60/plan. I changed the build.prop as suggested. And simply keep clicking stock "hot spot" on until it passes the message asking you to add tether. Once active, I used iexplorer or chrome with User Agent extension. Both are currently working.

Hope this help anyone else out there attempting the same thing. (I did not have to use wifi tether router, I'm running stock hot spot app)

I'm curious if this is needed for Carbon Rom. Because I've gotten tethering to work before by going to settings -> more -> tethering & portable hotspot -> portable wifi hotspot. I would then get prompted by a metro PCS "pay us for this thing that should be free" on my PC when it connected. To fix this I just turned on my Private Internet Access VPN on the f6, and it worked with chrome on windows 8.1. Slower than my primary internet of course, but it was a cool little feature. I've avoided using this though due to being limited to 1GB/mo on my metro plan :/

Is this still working? Will this work on any metro pcs phone ex. Galaxy Avant? I was looking at switching but need it temporarily to be my home internet as well. I'm also going to use a VPN to be doubly safe and as my understanding is it hides the fact you're tethered.
There are at least 3 ways to get the avants hotspot working.
