So I rooted an exhibit sgh-t599 and rooted it successfully and went to install a recovery it froze on me and then somehow ruined the stock os so i couldn't get the phone on. I hadn't had a chance to make a backup yet so the only option I had was to install a new rom to try and fix it. I successfully installed one and got the phone on now the only problem seems to be that i can't get 4g working. It isn't even an option in the menus. Any ideas? Could it be that I'm not using a rom that supports 3g? I'm using carbon kk rom. Any rom recommendations that support 4g?

Ok so I'm ok at flashing stuff to the phone and rooting it but not much beyond that. Where do I check the apn setting and what am I looking for, what should it be. And as far as the build.prop how do I check that and make a change if needed. I appreciate your responses already posted and hope you can help further.

Ok, I put the apn for my dad's phone on the same one that my mom's phone set for (doing for my folks). The phones are identical. So I have omnirom installed on his, and the phone is an sgh-t599. It's T-Mobile phone but running off Walmart family plan. Is that everything you needed.

Well when you install these custom roms they usually by default use T-Mobile's apn. I had to change mine to metro everytime I installed a custom rom. If I remember correctly go to settings, mobile data and apn settings should be somewhere there.

Ok yeah I found where to change the apn strings and have tried them all. I either get nothing or just 3g. When I look at preferred connection type above apn out only gives options for 3g and 2g. 4g isn't even an option. Lol wish the original os hadn't gotten screwed before I could make a backup. I thought that maybe I could make a backup of my mom's phone and use that on his but it doesn't show up as a possible restore when I loaf his recovery. Any thoughts on that? Ate you not able to use a different phones backup?

Ok now this is odd. Yes I rooted it last night and verified with root checker, but just now when I went to double check to reply to you it says that it does not have root access. That's strange, I don't know how it could have gone from having it to not having it. I haven't ran any updates.

If you'd rather go back to the stock rom follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2555423
