Root [ROM][UNOFFICIAL][4.4.4] DeCAF Cyanogenmod 11, Release 1

Ok, well after tinkering with my version of CM11 I've taken a logcat of all the errors i get while spamming various things on the phone from boot up. This should lead us to some insights hopefully on what is wrong with sound. I can report that front and back cameras are working though I dont know if this is news to anyone. I did make some modifications to some make files but I am not sure if that did anything. Also my touch screen goes unresponsive some times when plugging in the usb from cable while waking up on lock screen. Might be a coincidence but it has happened twice while the the cable was involved. I'll see what I can find.

I don't have much to report as I am just gathering information. I'm hoping we can shoot some theories about why sound is not working to focus our efforts a little bit. I've included an sdiff of the ZV4 build.prop and CM build.prop. They don't seem to have any signficant differences so I'm maybe looking in the wrong place but i'll include it here anyways for reference.

So I've heard that the culprit might be the propietary vendor blobs according to Zef_mofo on IRC. Other theories might include something wrong in the device_x5.mk or BoardConfig.mk but I am not sure where to start first. Any insights and suggestions. I'm still new to this so feel free to explain it like I'm 5. :)

sorry i have not been around much guys/gals. i am still working on this, just hitting a lot of snags with sound. im mostly focused on getting sound to work, then ill call this a beta and the rest should not be that hard to make work.

new year, new build in the op. i switched to androidfilehost to try to host everything in one place that isnt mediafire. synced with cm11 source as of 1/1/15, everything listed in the op is what I tested that works and does not work.

we really need some guidance in the sound issue, if anyone has any tie to a developer or knows enough about it to ask the right dev the right question, that would be awesome.

if you add audio_policy.msm8226.so from /system/lib/hw/ (stock) to our build in the same place, it will take forever to boot, but once it does boot for the first time, a few really off timed beeps will come from the speaker from touch sounds in cm11, then it will bootloop endlessly. i've been pulling my hair out trying to figure out what other libs or bins we need to make it work, and just cant get it.

see if the above helps you get anywhere further, im glad you are working on this too.

I have no clue on building android but some time ago I recall reading something that mentioned if the wrong LTE modem is installed it will break sound... Keep in mind I have no idea what device I was reading about and this was several months ago so I could be mistaken... But thought I should at least mention:thinking:

Thanks to all those working on this project!
:)

I found a very interesting post here that explains the difference between msm8x26 chips.
According to them, 8226 is the same as 8926, but without LTE support.
If they're right, is there a way around this?

The stock zv3-4-5 kernel sources should be adapted already for LTE from lg. I got LTE to work one or twice by replacing libs, I just can't remember which ones.

Are you sure that wasn't sound for a call? I'm pretty sure this ROM has no sound at all yet and that's the problem.
Also, would this happen to be that post?

Are you using winRAR or winzip to re compress the archive?

Recompressing with WinRAR never works for me, for this specific task, but 7zip gives me no problems. I do not know why that is.

BTW: Whomever keeps posting builds that require you have to go in and edit crap before they flash: stop it. That's not cool. Or at least warm beforehand that it is lazily-compiled ZIP so people don't have to waste their time pushing and attempting to instal lthem. Thanks. :p

OK that would be me that posts builds that you have to edit. I even say in my op that i recommend twrp over cwm since cwm is outdated and the updater script code in cwm is borked. I don't make you use these builds, you do it because you want to, so don't complain unless you want to Dev for this phone and do it yourself. That's downright rude to the people that make stuff for you to enjoy to demand things that really isn't our problem to fix.

Sorry to be a jerk, but don't come into my thread and demand things. You are lucky to have anything you can get on the volt considering a month or two ago we didn't have much except a stock ROM (luckily we even had that.) Cm dropped cwm for a reason, which is why I don't support it either.

Personally, I think you are doing a great job dude. I would like to thank you for what you do for this device, we need people like you. And I too take offence to ungrateful leaches that spew crap all over these forums.

Sorry if I came off as demanding, I just didn't know what to do, it's my first experience with windows 8 :/

I was actually going to come and say flashing with twrp allows you to flash the ROM without editing the updater-script at all, I just got caught up with school. As soon as audio is fixed I'm going to stay with cm11 (I love it already, fantastic job!)

Sharkhunter, hey I wasnt calling you out, it was culot that was complaining about a known issue that has been addressed time and time again. Your good man, no problems here.

I dont do this for anyone but myself. The only reason I post these is because I figure all of you can benefit too. If I post what I can get done, others can pick up and fix the rest of the problems so we all benefit.

Everyone else, I have hit a few snags here and there and have not had time for this lately. Sorry for the inconvenience, but it looks like we have a good group of people here looking to fix problems. The community is what makes the device, and we lucked out getting the people we have here. You guys are excellent, and eventually we will have a good running base to get omni, cm, slim and others.

Thread cleaned, let's remember the devs do this voluntarily and for their own enthusiasm. Asking for ETA's, calling other testers names, and calling the dev names won't help with development or his desire to do it. If you don't hear from me offline, then you did nothing wrong, even if a post or two or yours disappeared or was edited, just part of the clean.

Oh, and the drug talk, it's in the rules. Leave it out of the forum.;)

Any questions, drop me a line.

Hello to any devs out there. I do think we're really close to a beta version of every rom out there once we sort out sound. Bad_MOFO is doing some great work so things are definitely still chugging along. Right now I'm focusing on making my own flashable zip kernels using various kernels out there but so far have had no luck with making something bootable. Anybody have experience with making AnyKernel work? I've tried updating the updater-script with the right mount point arguments but still no luck. Hoping maybe there can be some head bumping here or on IRC (freenode ##LG_Volt)

I've attached the updater-script to see maybe if there is anything that can be done. I want to streamline kernel swaps so we can quickly troubleshoot ROM vs kernel issues.

In a best case scenario we can get some CAF and NON-CAF kernels built and tested to root out the kinks in our ROM. I'm currently investigating whether we can use zImages with appended DTB to see if that would help the device pick up sounds. It feels as if the kernel is not fully built with the sound dtsi files possibly but this is all just brainstorming at this point. Hopefully we can get more IRC discussions and development ideas going.

As a sidenote, i've switched to working on AOSP just to challenge myself and just learn some fundamentals. I was strangely able to get it booting and barely working by swapping in WhoShotJr2006's boot.img over my own. I cannot seem to get my own bootable ROM yet which is strange. I just found out AOSP does not have BOARD_CUSTOM_BOOTIMG_MK support in its build/core/Makefile which baffled me for quite some time.

Again good job to all the devs, testers, and hopeful onlookers. :)
