Help Bootloop after Root & Disabling Apps

I rooted my hydro life. Later on (after a couples of reboots, about five days later) I disabled a bunch of seemingly innocuous apps, such as metro* and music* (but not musicfx and not play music) and it was bootlooping (more details here http://androidforums.com/posts/6901294/ ). Thankfully the insurance replaced it for me.

Which of these steps caused the bootloop?

  • rooted it with rootgenius
  • attempted to install supersu with no luck. Disabled kinguser.
  • Installed the update, which disabled root, and I just happened to have kinguser disabled. It was disabled as I was still trying to install supersu. I reenabled kinguser after the update, and I had root again. A few apps complain about not having supersu but they still worked! Root checker said that my root was incomplete, then after a reboot root checker said that I have full root.

Should I install the update, and then attempt a root? And should I try the bin4ry root method first, and if unsuccessful, then attempt rootgenius?

Also I'm not sure if this new phone has the update yet, it says:
sw version 1.001TM
hw version 0103
baseband 1.001TM
kernel 3.4.0-g90a44bb
release@release #1, Mon Jun 23 02:00:38 JST 2014
Build number JLS36C
