Root LG Enact root -- need help!

I have a Verizon LG Enact that I picked up on eBay in great shape, running KitKat, but I'm having trouble getting it rooted. This is not my first rooting experience, I've had success with Motorola and Toshiba devices, but this one has me stumped.

I've done everything I'm supposed to, Airplane Mode, USB Debugging enabled, RSA fingerprint accepted (and remembered), in ethernet mode... don't believe I missed anything.

I ran ioroot 25 ("ioroot_25r1"), and when the phone reboots into the stock recovery, I select "Apply update from ADB"... and that's where it ends. An error message pops up on the ioroot console saying "device not found", my computer says that "a USB device has malfunctioned and is not recognized", and the phone sits there waiting for something that never comes. There is no sideload, the two just stop communicating.

I've also tried the "manual" method I spotted here in another thread (https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=e8tmN5IEg54&app=desktop), which uses "Download Mode" rather than sideload via Recovery. This one looked even more promising -- no error messages at all, this time, once I figured out the details -- but nothing happens after the last command prompt entry, and no root.

The installed PC adb driver for this phone is the one recommended in the ioroot documentation (it's called LG_VZW_United_Driver), which is supposedly the newest and best driver available from LG -- though I've tried about 5 of them, none makes a difference. I even downloaded the Verizon/LG "Software Update" tool, but that didn't change a thing either. (The ior00t-recommended driver is a real pain to install, there is no "install" tool, you just have to search out the drivers folder thru Device Manager. I got rid of all the other old stuff, then installed these clean.)

I've also tried a ton of other PC-based tools (MobileGo, SRS, kingo, superroot, etc.) and .apk-based ones (towelroot, kingroot, etc.), and none of them work. Going to keep nibbling at this problem until I find a solution, but any help will be appreciated!
