Super frustrating. I just switched back to the GS5 and immediately noticed that my emails (orginally with the Gmail app) would not give an alert until I turned the screen on and unlocked the phone. I've tried third-party email apps and am getting the same results. If I go through the steps of clearing caches, rebooting, removing and re-adding email addresses I can sometimes get it to work once or twice, but then back to nothing. I did do a factory reset as well, but no luck. Sometimes unlocking the phone isn't even enough, and I have to manually refresh.
A few other apps I have that should update in the background don't seem to be unless the screen is on, either.
I've narrowed it down so far is it not being just the gmail app since it's reproduced in other apps as well, and I don't think it's Gmail, either. I'm getting emails fine elsewhere. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.
