i have a note 4 and am buying a note 5. how can i transfer my backup messages of whatsapp from my note 4 to my note 5? normally i save the data on my sd card when changing phones. but since there is no sd card in the note 5, i am worrying because i do not want to lose everything.
also same case for music, videos and pictures saved on my sd card. i am buying the 64gb note 5.
thank you for your help.

Go to the whatsapp website and download the latest version. You can backup to google drive. Then when you open whatsapp the first time on the new device, you can restore. Note - you MUST restore immediately or you'll have an issue (my understanding).

This worked for me this weekend.
i went to the whatsapp website and it asks me to install the app on my phone which i already have.
also, how can i backup on google? the only option from the app is to backup on the phone memory.
can you walk me through how you saved your whatsapp data on google ?

I used the Samsung Switch for the first time and its awesome!! It transfers everything from your old phone to your new phone!! Contacts.. apps... pictures... videos... messages... call log.. everything!! From your phone and your SD card!! I even got a app that was no longer offered in the play store!! I wish they had this app before!!
And it is so easy to use!!

Delete whatsapp from your old (current) phone. Go to the whatsapp website and download/install their APK. You should be prompted to backup to google drive. I made the setting "only when I click" or whatever the option is. That way it didn't do it before I was ready. Make sure you restore your backup from memory... then go back to the backup menu and click on backup to google drive. It will take awhile (depending on how many messages/media) you have. I had nearly 1 gb of data - so it took a decent amount of time (maybe 30+ minutes). When it's all complete, you can then go to your new phone (make sure you have the newest whatsapp on that phone too) restore from google drive. You ONLY get this option the first time running whatsapp on the new phone. So don't "set up" whatsapp on the new phone until your ready. If you have, then remove the app and re-install.
