The Optimus V was my first smart phone / Android Device; you could say it was my first 'phone' love.

I've sinced retired it and moved on to the LG Volt (awesome phone)

But ... has anybody tried using their Optimus V as just a media player for, like, their car?

Thoughts / suguestions?

Absolutely! I also upgraded from the Optimus V to the Volt. My Optimus V is now a wifi only Android. It sits in the bedroom on a cheap docking station. I've got a clock radio with an audio in jack and connect it to the Optimus to use as a music player.

Since the Optimus has WiFi it's part of my network and I can transfer files (primarily music) to and from the other devices on my network (new phone, computers, etc.)

The Optimus is also useful as a WiFi remote for my bedroom's media center computer (XBMC and Team Viewer remote), handy as a quickie internet device if I need to look up something while I'm in bed, and even an alarm clock.

Currently using my V as an audio player at home. It's running MiRage's cm 7.1 rom. Recently rebuilt that as I don't need to use so many apps on my V. A good thing, as Google Play services has grown large recently. I still use Link2SD on it. Sounds great with headphones, and the DSP Manager.

My home theater receiver is analog (uses Dolby Pro Logic for surround), so I simply use a 1/4 jack to stereo RCA cable to hook the V up if I want huge tones. I use tunein, and (for now) ES File Manager to play audio and video files.
